Legacy Question

Well i went away and came back to Legacy space with a CV that just about handles itself in this environment. Question is that I came to pick up some Quantum Cores and maybe an Advanced Core. After taking out 6 or so Infector's, 4 Decimators and 2 Eradicators i have ended up with 3 Quantum Cores. One issue is that to stop the ship you end up with a hollow shell and most of the time nothing inside.
I consequently found the home world and the packed space around the planet. I worked for a few hours to nibble away at the 4 Infectors 2 Decimators and 2 Eradicators and cleared them. Still only managed to glean 2 more Quantum Cores.
Finally I went out to the Lgc Beacon, oops, 2 Decimators and 2 Eradicators. They are actually guarding the Beacon, they stay close so if you attack one at least a second is in overlap cover. This is going to be hours of nibbling away to get through to the Beacon, is this going to be worth it? I am going to be disappointed if after a few hours I get rewarded with a couple of Quantum Cores. Has anyone actually achieved getting through to the Beacon to find out whats there and if its worth the time and effort.
