Empyrion - Galactic Survival

Empyrion - Galactic Survival

You've almost won...
Seriously, you have almost won against all space exploration / minecraft-esque / 4X-games. The only exception is 7 days to die, but the way I see it, there is no big difference in awesomeness between those two games.

Other games have better graphics and more solid mechanics, but your gameplay is so far superior that those technicalities do not matter anymore, at least not to me.

I only wish for three things:
- The possibility to get quests from NPCs (to get some awesome stuff like autominer cores or zascosium),
- a full-fledged storyline (which doesn't break if you make a small mistake), and
- a little more polish.

Anyways, stay awesome! I'm looking forward to the next version!

Hahahaha... I was speaking with my friend about this today :)
Empyrion is closer to 7dtd than to NMS. And 7dtd is closer to Empyrion than to State of Decay.
(they even share same "unity related" bugs)

Sooooo often I can see Empyrion and 7dtd together in peoples profiles.

Well, my wish list is A LOT longer, so I will leave here only one small thing - give us "Take all" button.

Empyrion really is 7D2D in space...without the zombies.

Where are my space zombies!?

I dunno, space engineers is right up there. Only problem SE has, is a lack of NPC enemies. Currently it's only got wolves, spiders, and unmanned vehicles; kinda...lame.

Well, there are space zombies. They're called Abominations, and can be found within various POIs ;-). Yet you are right, I would have also enjoyed a "weekly" massive attack such as the ones in 7 Days to Die (I'm playing solo). There are some Zirax base attacks, but they can be easily repelled after you put some defenses on your fortress...

Yes, how about a 7DtD-esque feature of base defense for solo players?

Well this is more of a server thing, but there are servers that have big events where players must fight off huge waves of enemies without vehicles.
I did one back when I played, it was really fun - kinda funny, in that I was the only person present in the event who wasn't in a specific clan.

You are such a tease.

How is this game similar to 7D2D??
Apart the voxel deal off course...

I'm still trying to figure out how Empyrion counts as a 4X.

Well, I believe there is enough criticism out there, so saying something nice, which I believe to be true, is not inappropriate...

Primarily survival/building/crafting.

Base defense isn't really comparable as others have noted.

If you've built anything extensive in 7D2D you'll probably get a little frustrated with EGS since terrain is voxel generated but you don't remove blocks when you excavate.

Which makes it hard to place player created blocks since they won't interface cleanly with terrain blocks.

Despite that there's a lot under the hood to respect in this game.

I agree with OP. There are some concepts in this game that are hands-down the best mechanically implemented features that just blows other games out of the water. The logistics system just by itself...being able to literally make and design your own craft and how they handle at 0G or higher Gs...the sheer amount of blocks available is like having every lego piece available to you, it's almost overwhelming the creative freedom this game affords...

There's plenty I don't like about the game, sure, but man what they got right they *nailed* it...I really hope more people notice this game and it gets the polish I'm hoping for.

I second that completely. Empyrion has its flaws, yes, but it opens a universe of possibilities that is as of yet unmatched (besides 7DtD or, of course, Minecraft). The Lego analogy is true, too. I loved Lego Technics as a boy, and now I can have that - and explore another galaxy! ...

... Wheee! :-D

Not being a naysayer, but considering how the AI functions I'd say we do have our "zombies".

This game with it's flaws however has proven very addictive for me. Time played per day rivals my Kenshi time played per day, and that's a bit embarrassing to speak of.

The building in SE is amazing but there's just not enough to do with all that toys.
Once made it to space, after great struggles and many explosions, then built myself a base into an asteroid... absolutely epic! But then I realised: That's it. Sure could have tried to reach another planet but that's just another empty rock with nothing to do.
The game needs MUCH more wildlife, vegetation, factions.... but that's not gonna happen.

The building in Empyrion is a little less intriaciate than SE's but the world is so much more alive.

Btw, I like 7D2D, too :)
Great world and more survival focused but the building is a bit lacking, imo.
Empyrion hits the sweetspot.

I like 7 days as well but it also runs out of 'things to do' in the later game. But the other day I was briefly glancing at some videos on youtube about Empyrion and seems there ARE planets out there with a lot to do! Something about a Legacy homeworld and a keystone? I have no idea what that's all about. So are they working on more stuff for the game still? I don't even know. I just play, I don't read forums...usually. I have 5320 hours in 7 days.
