Is this the first time you have played the game? Did you get the new update 1.2? Are you playing experimental or stable?
If you have been playing and got the update, then go into the properties and roll back 1.2 update to earlier or switch to stable.
Ok so what you should do first is update your graphics card drivers, or if you have already just done that and the game now wont start, roll back one version of drivers.
You can save rolling back the drivers until you have checked some of the thigns below if you like, but keep it in mind if everything else fails, do it just to be sure, its rare it works but its worth a shot if nothing else works.
Then you should check your NetFrameowrk is up to date, that can effect many things in the games backround, security etc.
Next you should re-start Steam, then click on game in list, right click and find the verify game files tab, and verify the games files are in order.
There is a start up issues thread at Eleon forum for just this sort of thing, there are trouble shooting tips found in the links in the linked pinned thread
https://steamcommunity.com/app/383120/discussions/2/3476150562416335040/
If all of that fails, and it still crashes, go to the start box bottom left on desktop windows and do a search for Windows Event Log, check the time at which you started the game, or tried to start the game, it will have a reason as to what crashed the program if the issue is outside of the program itself, for example your voltages are to low on graphics card etc. Error 604 power '' or something like that.
Now open the Empyrion game folder, usually found in C/ steamgames / steamapps / common / Empyrion Galactic Survival / Logs.
Find the log for the last game you started, or tried to start, if there is a log, post it as explained below.
Create a notepad file, just on desktop, right click, paste all of the windows event log data to it.
Now go back to the windows search bar bottom left on screen and search for, "dxdiag" in the run box.Run that and get the PCs complete spec, copy and paste them to the notepad file you created on desktop.
There is a bug section at Eleon games Studio forum, this is the developers forum, can sometimes get bugs fixed faster if posted there in the bug section.
Feel free to start another thread there about the issue, paste al the data you have collected here in it also.
The devs check steam bug section once or twice aday, on there own forum they are online pretty much 24/7, and discord if you want to talk directly to a dev, you need to catch them in EU time zone to do that.

If its a low RAM memory issue because you only have 8GB or less, there is nothing the devs can really do.
Coming back to the game and using an old version.
Not Recommended at all.
Go to the Empyrion game folder and find the Cache folder.
Delete everything inside the Cache folder.
The Cache folder causes alot of bugs between versions because it goes to the cache folder for data with saved games, but if its an old version, then the data is a mismatch, usually throwing an error or crash.
Coming back to the game and using an old game save, loading it after installing a new update..
Not Recommended at all.
Rolling the game back to the version you want to play is whats recommended for playing older versions. / Old game saves.
You can do that by right clicking on Empyrion in the Steam list and follow the tabs to the version you want.
There are a few to choose from.
