Solar panels in space
I'm about to build a space base above my planet. Do solar panels work in space?

Yes, even better than on planets.

But i highly suggest you to finda orbit near a sun (<2Au) so thaat the solarpanels deliver real power and not just enough to power a lamp

(and you need to aim for the sun with your panels)

max output is 16.2 Kpu

in thiss case 1.1 Au from sun

The sun is even bigger as here with 2.5 AU

Yeah, REALLY well in fact. The closer the playfield is to the star, the better they work.

crud I can't even see my star from my base.... poor planning
ugh.... I'm 6.5au away

They'll still work better than they would on the ground on the same planet, plus they work constantly, not on day/night cycles, since they'll always be facing the sun.

i suggest to just test it before you spawn a base

That is a great idea for testing Before you spawn a whole base in!! :lunar2020thinkingtiger:
Now if Eleon will fix the solar panels for creative too.

does the light intensity of the sun not matter? this is displayed with the data of the respective system. Is it possible to have a greater distance in strong sun than in weak sun?

I have no 100% values, but the difference of the sun is i guess 0.2 Au maximal 0.3 Au worth
Thats a guess on experience, no measured value

I would really like it if you could use the small solar panels on the CVs. For standby operation in orbit or on the planet. With the new galaxy system, CVs are becoming increasingly important as a home. You rarely build planet bases or space stations when you are only traveling.

I do, well i setup a new "Temporary base" and fly arround with my everyday CV
(Thats my current base)

But the arround 50 i placed last game on the official server was a bit smaller. I planned them as Teleporter network bases

Only in 3 Orbits i placed a Solar factory and a Greenhouse

Anyway, i am not against solar power for CV´s
Spares us experiments like this

unfortunately no solar orbit around any star be it red dwarf or blue giant is the same very disappointing i was hopeing the 80 luminosity blue giant i found would allow for a large solar base but alas still need teleporter on second base
