Okay then i try the have the cursor move and do mouse flying. Terrible. But in another way.
Q and E rolls left and right as well if restricted to kybd/mouse.
I am using a Xbox one USB controller.
But we dont, so its mouse and keyboard all the way, and the reason is really really simple.
Response time.
You will not beat a mouse and keyboard for response time in Empyrion.
Just the time it takes to move your thumb on the joy , my key board button has already smashed out the command at 100%.
A joy though is more accurate.
No question about it, proportional joys rock.
But they are not as fast to respond as that mouse and keyboard.
This is not just a flying game though , it also involves first person shooting, of each other generally lol, and for those conditions, you totally do NOT want to use a joy, its death do you part if you do vs a mouse and keyboard guy / girl !
Death do you part bro, death do you part !
I find it really funny, that some games use a cross platform system, haha, where Sony playstationer's have to compete with folks using a mouse and keybaord in first person shooters, SOOOO unfair its why you buy a PC for gaming LOL !
Any special setups you use or default key settings? WASD + mouse to fire w/free moving cursor is the best this far and it feels so annoying trying to line up the shot so you can hit with a railgun or minigun. Not to mention tracking it enough for rockets to hit anything smaller than a barn door.
It sure wasn't like this before. i recall i wiped places clean in 0.6 but now it seems like best idea of combat is to run away. Sure it's different flight model and all but the difference in fun is much bigger. The old way was fun. This is like Elite Dangerous. And i refunded that game because i just could not get the controls accurate enough for the game to be enjoyable.
But I know all my kids use the WASD combination and the buttons around them, but I cannot get them, my old fingers dont like to dance like those kids, and they are so fast, so fast you can see why youngling kill you all the time in first person shooters, there hand eye co-ordination just SMASHES most of us older farts....!
So whatever feels most comfortable I would say.
Mouse/kybd for all else. As piddlefoot said, controller FPS got me killed, easier and more precise with m/k combo. ;)
My old fingers quit hitting the right buttons about 3 yrs ago! ;p Now I have to find the best combo that works!!
- Pilot view.
- Pilot mode off
- Mouse for precision firing
- Arrow keys are good enough sometimes as well with this setup.
- Ctrl for Cruise control to maintain some steady speed. Also avoid engaging too many drones at once.
Now i am finally able to fight back those drones.
Now they are some seriously serious flight controls !
Warthunder is ok for older planes also, but not perfectly accurate , like DCS is so accurate, its as accurate as they can really make it, each plane, you must learn on its own, its literally like the real thing, so if you can fly an F/A18 in that game, you can probably do it in real life, short of fitness.
If you do get into real flight sims, you tend to really want to use a full on joystick, but in more arcadeish like games, like most voxel games, and this one, it becomes more of a convenience thing and a mouse and keyboard are pretty hard to beat in that regard.
The humble old mouse and keyboard, I recon, will be around for hundreds of years, if we humans make it that far as a species.
Forget VR, Mums and Dads dont go for complicated stuff over cheap reliable stuff and now days with designed obsolescence people tend to shop for stuff that lasts, well we try too.
So I dont see VR or holographic screens with virtual interface's becoming the norm.
The simple fact is, the mouse is one of the most incredible inventions ever, as an interface between human and machine, its response and abilities are very very hard to match and harder to beat, coupled with a keyboard, you literally have a military real world set up, just add the HOTAS joy for the real flight of real drones and you see where Im going now...
Mouse, keyboard and a HOTAS, and holey Mc Fried Duck, makes sim flying from the 90s look and feel sooooo lame.!
I had a commodorre 64, I used to wait 2 and a half hours just to load a flight sim from cassette tape, and EVERY single game I ever tried, crashed in a hard turn ! OMG !
That is the very definition of gamers patience right there hahaha.
But the 64 had those little crappy joy sticks, they were good in shoot em up games like Rambo at teh time, but flying, OMG save me !
I think its going to b very hard to beat anyone flying with a mouse and keyboard in Empyrion.
The flight controls are just nt defined enough for any distinction.
We use 3 sets of flight controls in the entire game.
CV, SV and HV.
So I forever see the mouse and keyboard with the best response for such games as this.
Now kill dem drones !
Lets not get into the best c-64 joystick fight. Tac-2 or Pro 5000
For this game i would be happy to be just accurate enough as it was in 0.6 where i hammered most of my hours and extracted the best fun and for the moment being it is so. Was just mesmerized at how big the starting solar system is now.
Finally. I hate it when i start entertaining ideas of shelving this gem because they try too hard with the 'realism' part. (i am mostly though pleased with the new physics)
