Full release??
I am truelly wondering if this game will ever get a full release. Development started 2014 or before that and now we are reaching the end of 2019 and the game is still in an "alpha" state.
I totally understand that developing a game takes time But 7+ year for an alpha ????
At what point could we start exspecting atleast an beta ? Maybe a roadmap or something to atleast show progress ??

It is not unusual for games in this genre to take over ten years to fully develop, unlike other game, many mentioned in this thread, Empyrion aims to be much more and have alot more going on at any one moment, its a game with a planned Galaxy, do you want a galaxy with 20 planets or do you want a galaxy with hundreds maybe thousands of planets every one of them visit-able and explorable, do you want average current AI or do you want AI thats been tweeked and made much more competitive, these are what will make Empyrion stand out over time along with many other big features that AAA companies for the most have not perfected yet anyway.

Empyrion aims to compete with the big boys, the AAA games, and does not try to rip off players with subscription, which means in very black and white terms, it will take alot of, t i m e , to complete, possibly even more than ten years, we will just have to wait and see.

What is not seen in alot of game development is the time devs put in before it goes public, Empyrion I first learned about in 2014, the devs said they had already worked on the game for 2 years to get it to the stage it was at then, a heck of a lot more time goes into games development than some people in here seem to think.

Not every dev in history is out to rip people off, some really do want to build a long lasting cool game.
That would be Eleon.

Empyrion has been called MineCraft in space, even our devs referred to the game as such at the games awards thing they went to a couple of years ago when they were describing the game to others at the festival, now step back and ask yourself, did MC development even ever stop, and look at what its become and how long lasting it is, and right there is the vision of what Eleon would like to achieve.
There is absolutely nothing wong with how Empyrion is being developed or the speed at which its being developed, if people followed the game closely, and saw all the massive change logs we get regular, people would likely never make such profoundly ignorant statements.

This thread turned into a bickering fight between players over silly points that have no real bearing on the topic, and name calling, not on. Causes threads to be locked.

Consider the thread creator before destroying their topics / threads please.
Look at it like this, if you saw this person talking on the street about such things would you butt in and be so rude to his face, if not your comments are out of order.

Locked.
And answered.
Again.

Life hack: Realize, most the young gamers who see a character in Skyrim slightly clipping into a table they're standing near say "Oh...theres a bug! That's a bug! Bethesda make buggy games!"
Wat? People complained about Skyrim for being a crappy de-volution of the elder scrolls franchise, not because of it's (abundance) of funny bugs.

People complain about Fallout 4 / 76 for THEIR awful bugs.

I know this because I was alive to play the first fallout when it launched. So your "young kids" example is demonstrably incorrect.

As long as the game keeps improving why would you care or bring this up?
Go somewhere else....gezzz

but it is definitely approaching time where I personally would like to see a final, committed version, after this long.

I still do not understand this attitude.

Why would you want a game to be finished when it is still improving and a lot more can be done to make the game better?

If you want to consider the game finished then stop getting updates and stick with this version while the rest of us enjoy the improvements and additions to content.

I don't get it either. I've seen people who actually want them to release this game as is and start on Empyrion 2 or something. It's just silly.

I think certain types of games, like MMO's and Free to Play games, can be expected to be Ever-Evolving titles.

If that was a rule for all games, the whole industry would suck and no one would ever have to produce a finished game, which is an era we're walking right into letting people keep taking money for developing a lacking title.

7 Days to Die is by far the best example of that.
Everyone in this thread pretending Rimworld doesn't exist

Man don't remind me of 7 Days. That game is SO good on paper and is SO good ironically for several days with friends but we all just eventually fall of from playing it because the content is so lacking. The Dev only talks about vehicles (which have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ physics) and POI's he added and about god ray optimisation. No ACTUAL optimisation, you basically have to rent a server if you dont want your PC to tank itself for having to render an already crapily optimized system of world chunks and zombies several times over. Its a damned mess.

Elder scrolls. World of warcraft. Planetside 2. Dual universe. Star citizen. Minecraft. Space engineers. Overwatch. Gaming is full of examples of long development times.

You're right that not every game takes so long to make. But... many do. World of warcraft expansions take 4-6 years to make as an example.

And this has nothing to do with age.

And, like with age, you're literally naming a tiny drop in the bucket of games and some dont really apply.

StarCitizen is a rip off, for one thing. You even naming that is funny. Because you clearly cant spot a scam.

Planetside 2 has changed owners and is a Free to Play ongoing game, dude.

World of Warcraft is an ever evolving MMO, kiddo.

You're not making your case about age, maturity, and realistic expectations in the gaming industry regarding development times.
I was counting just the development cycle until full release, not any ongoing updates after release.

World of warcraft was in development before warcraft 3's expansion, if not earlier.

Planetside Next was in development for years before it was even officially announced.

Star citizen might be a scam, but it still counts as a game in development.

Overwatch was in development for like 6 years or something as Project Titan.

But sure discount some of my examples as "tiny drops in the bucket" even though most of them are well known highly popular titles by AAA companies.

And again what does age have to do with it?
Why are you wasting your time with trolls like Ras, Ravien? You are better than that. This thread was over.

SOOOO good on paper.

Literally a Face Painted on a piece of plywood could develop better games than The Fun Pimps. Those developers are utter losers, and liars, as well.

The Fun Pimps are the most dispicable game developers I've ever seen. Luckily the guys behind this title aren't nearly as bad. But omg....

This is what age has to do with gamers looking at long dev cycles thinking its par for course: You're not aware of how some adults are using the Early Access system as a means to simply pay their living expenses while they slowly develop a game.

Young people have absolutely zero concept of "rent" and bills and money in general. That's why they never mind the ethics behind indy developers taking FOREVER to finalize a game. I don't personally think younger people have a grasp on the finance side of things therefore they are terrible critics of a games dev cycle/length.

There. It's not that all young people don't know jack. It's that they don't know jack about money.

At all.

Look at the game DEAD MATTER right now. They were supposed to release this summer....they're now saying Spring 2020.

When you continue to take money after you've laid out a roadmap for a game and you're utterly terribly slow about getting there, that's the ethics part.

Top studios that take years to finish are taking years to complete their project for much......much...different reasons, kiddos.

Alpha means allowing major changes. Beta means rejecting major changes, freezing code and polishing of just what exist at this point. Are you okay with prohibiting major game improvements?
As long as Devs keep improving the game, I'm happy with just about all they want it be called, be it Alpha, Beta, Gamma or whatever. It just about naming things, after all
