Empyrion - Galactic Survival

Empyrion - Galactic Survival

So there's gravity in space?
Was on that brewery mission, first trip to space. I "parked" my ship about 100m above the station, thinking I'd hover the rest of the way there. To my dismay, as soon as I leave the spaceship I immediately fall down to the brewery...

On hitting the ground I broke a leg and almost died. Now I'm stuck in that place, looking up to my ship where I cannot reach. All because no one explained there's gravity in space.

In desperation, I threw myself off the station, where my character is still free falling into the nothingness, suffering hypothermia and awaiting a slow death. As for me, I'm writing this thinking if I'll ever play this again. The potential is there, but with so many rough edges, it can be frustrating to play.

The base has a gravity generator. Capital Vessels can also have a gravity generator.

You can activate your jet pack in space and it will override any gravity generators. You can also sprint in space without burning stamina.

If you are falling because of a gravity generator you will maintain the velocity from the generator after you leave it's AoE.

WTF Console. Just press J or whatever key is assigned to activate the jetpack

Um, where's the "current" game manual? I keep having to figure things out with accidental key presses :D

Seems like there's a lot of game information that gets easily overlooked or makes me go "??????"

Well, the game is always partly at fault, in this case - a lot.
This is obscure gameplay mechanic, there is no way to figure it out using common sense and there is no manual or tutorial to help. How new player is supposed to learn things like this?

Learning by dying.

No idea how it is now, but there was a dokumentation available a few years ago.
Anyway, for me its fine if people ask in the forum.

J for Jetpack - this is 'secret information'? It's hidden from players? No-one knows about it - this info is not given anywhere?
Yeah - of COURSE it's the game's fault...... /sarcasm

I guess some people can't be bothered with reading the settings on the game to see what the default key binds are set to. It clearly explains in there what each key does. I guess they're accustomed to playing those darned games that don't use a PC with keyboard and mouse. ;)

Unless you need to pass through walls, are getting shot at and feel that death would be too inconvenient (LOL), fixing something etc. don't use gm in space. It's pretty janky controls. J is much better.
Of course it is the game's fault if you can't use your brain and think about the possible presence of a gravity generator in a space base
While I thank you for the tips, please keep in mind the game should help ease new players into its world. It's not a question of stupidity, as some outright declare, it's a question of what's intuitive and what's not. A simple well visible "you are entering a gravity well" would have solved my predicament.

There's plenty of rough edges in this game, criticism should be headed, not dismissed.

The official wiki is Gamepedia.com but it's using like Alpha 8-9 info. It's so outdated this place is the best to find stuff out. A lot of the people answering here just kinda browse the forum and help out new players. It's been a blast learning the game with them helping.

Some more info on space. You can "float" (it's like walking) in any direction while in space. Don't worry about just floating away from your ship. I think gravity generators are the exception to this rule.
