Where do you like to build your home base?
I've been searching nearby solar systems trying to pick a place for my home base. The Polaris (cv) has been my mobile base of operations. Thinking about a station in orbit or something underground peaking out at a nice freshwater lake. Also wondering if I will be attacked like on the starter planet? Do different faction territory make a difference?

I mean, if the Zirax are hostile with you (as most everyone else) and you have drone attacks enabled I wouldn't be hanging out in their star systems. I know a lot of people like underground bases on planets with O2 (you grind stone to build with and start with a celling, walls, and drones can't really get to you well. Star bases are also a good option especially if you travel a lot. Really it just depends on your personal situation and what is important in a base to you (Cheapness? Size? Looks? Self Sufficiency? etc.).

Depends on the game, but i prefer to build next to a friendly trader.

besides that my next base

With the new huge galaxie i see no point in making a Base

I prefer A swamp area close to The SV you can salvage early on. I like to get the farm up and bring down the SV from the minefield and a CV. Hollow them out maybe change the outside a little then I move. Up till 12 I usually left after I got them fixed and moved to the swamp planet(the Hard one) then I would one of the grassy areas with pentaxium crystals around (A little more same there at night) and I get pentaxid to pick every time I go for a walk.

Thing is I find Zirax land on this planet and build half way in their territory and this gives me level 9 - 10 attacks.

For me there is not much to do once I have a good SV or CV. I no longer need anything from the poi's and it becomes start over or mess around a little and defend - Build a base that's actualy 3 bases and they hit often. Defend and repair. till I get bored then start again.

11 stretched it out a bit and kept me playing there for a while as I don't seem to have the CV fully upgraded now when I make the move(a good thing) 12 may only stretch it out a little more (time to get into their part of the galaxy. To build in friendly lands (for me anyway) just turns the game into boring no action. Im not one to take out poi's unless I have to or need to I prefer to leave em and get attacks (action). Abandons are different.

In creative mode.. After that it's definitely safer underground, but if you can spawn a base and have ammo, fuel and pentaxid ready it don't matter where. Well placed turrets will defend it as long as the shield lasts. Also you mention if it matters with factions. If you spawn in later game areas and it's a planet controlled by hostiles they are harder.

I build next to a trader preferably the one in orbit. That way I can float over to use transporter or refuel a ship.

If I need a planet base, I dig a hole and put it there. You only need to get "so close" and you can connect to an underground base to add things that should be topside like solar panels. Advantage of an underground base in a PvE setting is you don't need any defenses, even if they magically take over your CPU with no defenses you just walk in and take it back.

For a space base I'll echo the thoughts that everyone else has mentioned, I build next to a trader. That way I don't have to replicate services that the trader will provide me for free.

You should name it The Star Mattress.

i very much like ocean planets and as it so happens, project eden gives you one of those as a starter choice.

a day at the beach after a hard day of looting, shooting and sorting relaxes me every time :)

sitting atop of my glas tower at sunset with an (imaginery) bottle of wine is also quit nice :)

I usually build near Polaris settlements (if i find them early enough), in the wall of a hill/mountain, a slight bit up to deter animals from randomly walking in to my base. Also makes Zirax attacks a bit less of a thing. Once i wipe their dronebase of the planet, i build a nice beach house somewhere in the open so i can get pretty sunsets/sunrises.

Early on, my ideal location is on the side of a hill, leading down to water, in a swamp biome.

Side of the hill means extra free protection from drones as most of my base will be built inside the hill with only the entrance, solar panels, an turrets sticking out.

Water is necessary if you need to make oxygen and eventually necessary in large quantities for making hydrogen fuel cells, which are the most effecient power source for vehicles in terms of prometheum use.

Swamp biome, while ugly, has an abundance of food deposits, which are enough to keep me fed until I'm far enough in to have a garden going.

As scooby noted above - eventually your 'base' will likely be a large CV.
I do miss my efficient starter base, but with so many solar systems and a jump range of only 30LY per jump (or teleport), once I journeyed halfway across the galaxy to reach Legacy space, I had to admit that I would probably never be returning to my base again, as the inconvenience of travelling all the way back to the home system outweighs any benefit I'd really get from returning to it, even though I left a bunch of neat stuff behind.
If I do find myself needing the few things that can only be put on bases (furnace, deconstructor, solar energy), I'll likely build a space station, as the solar power generation is much greater, and the ability to mine Ice asteroids has eliminated the need for a ground-based water source to make hydrogen for fuel and oxygen for ships/stations.

i changed the jump range to 250 LY. i don't consider this cheating, it's more of a convenience feature and let me tell you it makes getting around so much more fun :)

I dont get the low radius too.

The only result is that the player explore less. And its not so that the game creates a too high urge to explore

Btw finished my next base Blueprint. I will spawn on the official server in a Orbit of a 4g Zirax Planet
(solarpanels are so strange to test the right direction)

I can understand the value in not jumping straight across the galaxy in one shot, but maybe we'll be able to automate a chain of small jumps, where each waypoint must be under 30LY, but instead of jumping them one at a time, we can map a path ahead of time and jump it all at once.

Since v12, my preferred base is on as Goldilocks planet. Water worlds seem nice. Find one with no factions and you needn't worry about attacks. My current base is a just a huge platform in a lake in an island on a water world in Polaris Space, so there is a trader nearby on the planet. All my gubbins (generator, fuel tanks, capacitors, container controllers etc) are under the platform. Added bonus- generators etc in water give off no heat or radiation. My garden is outdoors, the plants grow in sunlight and nice weather, and the weather is always nice. I'm just within Polaris Space (couldn't find a Goldilocks in open territory), but Zirax territory is only one warp away. I have no defenses on my base, and my docked CV guns take care of the occasional wandering waterbug. Can't remember what they are called.

Space bases are nice too, they have the 24/7 free light advantage, and you can build an airdock made entirely of forcefields- which is a great place for building ships if you like doing that in survival like I do. Of course you need to make your air, but besides that they are super sweet. Check out my Captains Airdock on the workshop to see a giant version. Needs updating for V12 still, but it's get you the idea.
