Force Field Thing
What's it for? I thought it would deflect attacks, but it does not?

It is only used for sealing oxygen into an area. It doesn't absorb impact.

Why is that even a thing? The doors and Hangar doors already do that.

To create larger openings than hanger doors can cover.

You must have missed this part of the release notes...

- We added airtight force fields in different sizes
- The force fields keep O2 inside your base. They do not work as a hitpoint barrier (planned for a future iteration)

Why wouldn't a sealed base not hold onto oxygen?

This is more options than just doors and garage doors. You can now make an airtight structure with columns, or maybe a 2x2 round opening, etc. the doors and garage doors are airtight not because they are doors, but because of their forcefield. open just a door in real life and your seal is broken.

It does. The airtight forcefields allow you to seal areas but walk through them without the swooshing of the doors. Also, take the MS Titan hangers. They are like fly-through tubes allowing ships to fly out without hanger doors. With the new force-fields, the hangers can now be made airtight.

15x25 hangar access, sealed with forcefields. Too big to be properly sealed with hangar doors or shutters.

Gun deck, sealed with forcefield. Guns can still shoot out, so they are now better protected from enemies and yet the area around them is still sealed.

I see. Thanks

I also used them to make small, open but still airtight cockpits. Visibility is better than with glass, it is easier to get into, and it still offers oxygen and temperature protection.
1*2 and may be even 1*1 (did not try putting ventilator under the seat) CV cocpit is now possible, which allows really minimalistic CV-s for mining and such.

Basically you can passthrought without waiting for dors to opening (or not opening in some cases) in pve and can make airtight seal combat areas in pvp for maintance during or after battle. It's a big update. But after a forcefield as barrier it will be an even bigger update. Forcefiedl era is coming ;)

Helps to read the patch notes.

Where can I flag this comment for stupidity?
Not sure, but I do know that one was flagged for being rude. :)

OMG, really? Children please, sit in your rooms until you can get along. Serriously, this forum feels like its just gotten about 20 times more hostile than it normally is. Whats the deal? Is everyone stressed from the holidays? I think we're all on Santas naughty list by now.

Nah, and it's just somebody too lazy to do basic reading, and then asking a stupid question.

He's also jaded. So, yeah. It became a thing.
