It's bascially a door in block form. I think the longest one is 3x1 and retracts to a 1x1. So basically if you put 5 of them in a row and linked them all together to a signal control, you'd have a 5x3 wall that opens up to make a 2x5 doorway. If you paired two sets of them end to end, it'd make a 4x5 doorway. They basically allow you to make custom openings, but they seem to be very early proof-of-concept still. I haven't found a ton of ways to really use them. The perk is that they're very well-armored compared to normal doors.

yeh that's why i looked into them. might be good to defend a key room. thank you.

Blast doors have a lot of HP. Makes them useful if you don't think regular doors are armored enough or if you want to put a layer in front of a window to protect it during combat.

I was considering them for exterior hanger doors on heavier ships, but since the largest opening you can create is 4 blocks wide, it's a bit limited.

You can make an opening that is 4 blocks high and any number wide. E.g. 9 blocks above and 9 below will give you an oprning of 9 x 4, which is only half a block or so lower than the 9x5 hangar door.

Don't get up... just passing through. Ignore me, I've got brain damage and type too much, because I don't know when to stop.

Found Blast doors in my inventory. Oh!
What do these do?... came here... THANKS everyone!

(1.) Biggest door I've managed to figure out using blast doors is one with a hole 5x4

(2.) If you're combining blast doors, remember they're different on either side, so be careful how you turn them

(3.) They don't seem to be airtight. Bum!

Had a little bit of a play...
Grab the size 3 doors...
Plant one on one end, in the floor, so the door opens up & downwards. (That's 2 high)
put one on either side of it (that's 5 wide)
put another one on top of each of those.. (still
put another two on top of those (now the hole is 4 x5 with a gap in the top middle)
Lay some blocks across the top to give the last one something to stick to...
and put it upside down (compared to the one in the floor)
Hey presto! (5x4)
I think that is about the biggest hole you're going to get. - though obviously if height is not an issue you could have a REALLY wide (but short) opening.
So, I made a 5x4 - just to see if I could. (yes!)
It looks ugly - but by coincidence I was making a mock-up Medical centre, so I painted a red cross on it and it fits the scene just fine.

Okay... next idea.... I'm building another pyramid and they're WONDERFUL shapes for solo players, because, from the cabin at the top you get all round visibility for my mobile (CS) base.
I love it, but it is a pig to work on, because most people build 45° slopes, but not me!
I want a 1:2 gradient. It drives you bananas, but I think it looks great and, like I say, the shape is tremendously versatile.
Now, not many doors fit nicely with that... either your hangar door sticks up and you need to build a tunnel from the edge to the centre and that ruins the nice pyramid shape.
OR... you have to place the hangar door far enough inside to fit under the slope... and lose a lot of space just to get to the door... you've also got to put in walls to seal it.
Might as well just build a cube!
So, how about putting in blast doors and putting them like steps?
you know, one set put in vertically - and one set put in horizontally behind that & repeat.

The other thing I quite liked is the idea of having long and short doors opposing on alternate rows.. gonna look great when it opens and shuts.

The other idea that crossed my mind would be to try to fit my doors to the shape of my SV's wings. LoL.

I told you I had brain damage.

Okay - I'm outa here...

Here's a piccy...

If you are talking about your core the safest way to place your core is out in open

That way WHEN it gets hacked you can take it back easily

Doors = bad
