Oxygen switch won't stay on (p menu) on sv?
Build a sv. I have o2 tank that is filled. o2 station that dispenses air. Vent in the top of ship. N debug mode shows all green. Still does not hold oxygen in orbit? I hit P and power on the o2 and it just turns off.

try adding more o2 tanks, it will not work if you do not have enough to 'fill' the ship

you either do not have a air tight ship or you dont have a ventilater

I have a ventilator so it is back to not being air tight. I just don't know how to trouble shoot the air tightness with out rebuilding the whole cabin area. It shows up as all green.

Did you try this? It is probably the solution.

some ships (ones with an inclosed cabin) dont need a ventilator and if it is not airtight it will stay on untill the air leaks out? - in both these scenerios the switch would likely not turn off immediately
for what you describe its a good chance you need another o2 tank or 2 to fully fill the ship with air to start with

I added a second o2 tank and it still did not work. When I turn on debug/ show o2, it shows o2 in the cabin. But when I take helmet off it says I need o2 and to put my helmet back on.

The ventilator only has on/off and deoxygenize under config.

also make sure your using the airtight doors, the tooltip for the doors suggest some aren't
It sounds like it's either not fully airtight or you don't have enough reserve oxygen. Strip out the cabin fittings and use the N menu to check for holes in the pressure hull. If you don't find any, add more tanks, fill them, and see what percentage is drained when you toggle oxygen on.

A space may be enclosed without a ventilator. This protects it from environmental temperature and radiation hazards. Artificially oxygenating a space, however, always requires a active ventilator. You can forgo ventilators completely on planets with breathable atmosphere.

i have several small sv's with solid 'inclosed' cockpit blocks that have o2 without a ventilator, they provide o2 when your using them in space with the helmet removed
ventilators are only needed on 'built' interior spaces afaik

Okay. Seems to be working. While in orbit I added more o2 into the two tanks bringing them to 92% and it seemed to be enough for me to breath finally. I did not realize such a small vessel would need so much o2. Also while on the ground and in orbit I noticed o2 symbols outside on the top, front and back of my ship?

Thanks for the help everyone.

Cockpits are not spaces. They are blocks. If you build an enclosed room in an SV, it will protect you from environmental hazards, but it requires a ventilator if you want to pressurize it with oxygen. This is true for HVs and CVs as well. Depressurization is not an issue on planets with breathable atmospheres, but they may still have other radiation or temperature hazards. Occupying a depressurized (but still powered) ship or base will still protect you on such worlds.

@Big, i was just pointing out that your statement
"Artificially oxygenating a space, however, always requires a active ventilator."
does not absolutely apply to all sv's (or all hv's for that matter) which is what he has
the enclosed cockpits protect and oxygenates without them (vents), i guess to me they have 'space' since i can 'get in them' :P but i can see your point, its just semantics
so my bad there
