Can't power up the home base

I created a core in a starter block, a fuel tank, a generator, a small constructor and a cargo box and put them all side by side in a square. When I press 'Y' nothing is going on. The power doesn't come on. There is fuel in the tank. So what could be the problem? I have a few questions:

Do I have to create and install just the core or the core in a starter block? Does the core and the fuel tank have to be side by side, or the generator and the fuel tank side by side? Is it normal that I can't access the generator's control panel? Any suggestions would help. Thanks

Are you creating a new base, or taking over an existing base? If new, you need the starter block, which when you place looks just like a core. Things don't need to be side by side but they have to be connected somehow through blocks. If you look at the core and press P you should see the control panel for the base.

I am building a new base from scratch. I have the starter block. When I press 'P' I get the control panel but the power doesn't come on with pressing 'Y'. I don't have any blocks besides all this gear.

The generator doesn't have it's own control panel. If you bring up the base control panel you can use the little slider switch on the Main tab to turn on the Power. Maybe the Y key doesn't work if you're not standing on the base.

Edit: Yeah, just tested it, you have to be in or standing on the base, and if you only have those blocks I guess you're not doing that.

I pressed it while on top of it and it doesn't work. Can you tell me step by step everything that you did when you build yours? There is something that I didn't do obviously.

You have so little to the base, so it has to be something simple. Double check to make sure you placed a generator and not a small fuel tank.
And since there is so little there, are you sure it is not turning on. Place a light, although you should be able to see the constructor light up albeit a little, but make sure IT is on

Here is a base with just starter block, fuel tank, small generator, cargo box and small constructor. Sorry it's a bit dark. It powers on either through the control panel or standing on the cargo box and pressing Y. Do I have anything you don't?

Haha, told him to place a light, but since the core is open aired, you can see the core light up.

You mean that I could have confused a small fuel tank for a generator? By the way, is it a small or a big fuel tank that is needed?

Yeah, and the generator runs and makes noise too, so it shouldn't be a problem to see if it's powered up.

Check the Devices tab to see if it say's you are missing things. And any size fuel tank will work as long as it's a base fuel tank. Other types won't connect anyway so it shouldn't be possible to confuse them.

@seven: Your base is identical to mine. Although there is one difference. In my case, some of the equipment is displayed as missing. It is not recognized despite the fact that it is there.
