The Alien loot in the Zirax temple, is it possible to get?
If you don't like spoilers, stop reading.

So, I've hit a number of Zirax temples and the tower always collapses no matter what I've tried. And of course that is where some containers are hidden. The last one I created a save just before I went for them so I could keep trying different approaches, but it always ends in failure. Is it actually possible?

Spoiler here--- It is possible, but tricky. Destroy the core with gattling gun fire (its in the middle at the bottom, visible from outside). Then put your core on it, and carefully add supports to the ground from the parts that are hanging off the sides (called cantilevered to a structural engineer :P). Then add your own blocks up beside the tower to reinforce it. You can then use a drone to delete the top cap and go down in that way. I have done it a couple of times, then decided it was not worth the effort. There are only a couple of alien containers in it, and no epic loot that I ever found. The same method works on the defense towers too, but they are not as tricky.

Would need to see a screenshot or something, since I don't recall any towers. I might be thinking of a different POI though.

However, nothing is impossible in this game. Either you can build or un-build anything to make anything work or reach any spot.

There's a door up there, but the way is then blocked with grates. Take out the grates the tower collapses. Take out any of the surrounding blocks, the tower collapses. Hit the tower with one errant missile, the tower collapses.

Never seen that POI before. Have you looked at it with structural integrity turned on? Maybe you can reinforce it somewhere after you core it if the tower isn't supported properly?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I did check it with SI. The tower (actually more like a cylinder) is only supported in the middle by those structures attaching to the sides. The upper portion and the supports are all bright green, and only a tinge of red near the bottom of the cylinder. It's possible to remove a few blocks from the very top but as you get closer to the goodies, it comes crashing down. As you suggest, and Boomer says, I think adding support is the only answer.

Yeah, that does seem like a lot of effort. Maybe I'll just gm my way in. Thanks.

No one even mentioned that you can add blocks to structures you don't own, as well as repair them. You can reinforce it without placing your own core. If you're still hellbent on ownership, why not hack their Core the way that they hack yours?
replaceblocks <structureID> corenpc core
That's safer than risking errant gunfire destroying more than the Core.

Oh, I don't mind placing my own core, and I like to get those grow plots. I just thought there should be a way to carefully pluck blocks off the top with crashing the whole thing since SI at the top looks fine. Maybe next time I'll try doing that with the SI debug on and see if things change as I remove blocks. Maybe there is a way.

Damn, failed again. This time I started building up towards the tower structure with steel blocks but before they even touched it, the tower crashed down.
