Empyrion - Galactic Survival

Empyrion - Galactic Survival

So, I enjoy 7 Days 2 Die... How does this compare?
Generally, i want to know how the enemies in this game play out. I know it has base attacks, but can they actually attack the base? If you move from a base into a large scale ship, can it be attacked? What's it like?

7D2D and Empyrion are my top two games. Both have base attacks and raiding/looting. In A12 the ship combat is much more enjoyable and frequent. Both games are what you make of them. You can set the difficulty on both to suit your playstyle.

Big fan of 7 Days to Die here. (6,000+ hours)

Empyrion is great but it doesn't share the same level of imminent danger that 7D2D does.

You have more initiative in EGS where you attack more often than get attacked.

Building is mostly comparable but terrain modification in 7D2D is better and EGS doesn't really have the structural integrity system that 7D2D has.

One thing that EGS really needs is Space Zombies, lots and lots of different Space Zombies.

Finally, if 7D2D and EGS collided at high velocity the resulting game would be the greatest thing ever to happen in the history of human kind.

Like everyone above has said, if you like 7DTD then you'lll most likely enjoy this. Currently Empyrion has taken the title for my favorite game from 7DTD.

One thing I'll add is that Empyrion is a lot more janky than 7DTD, at least to me. A lot of things aren't as explained or easy to figure out, BUT once you do figure it out, this game is amazing. Especially with this A12 experimental stuff. It's like Elite Dangerous with the galaxy, but obviously better ;) lol

I also have as top games 7DTD and Empyrion. Empyrion is much bigger and you can build vehicles with blocks and travel to planets. But the danger and excitement I like better in 7 DTD. Although it depends on my mood, it is quite nice to relax in Empyrion when I do not want to be scared all the time. I just miss workshop and creative mode in 7 DTD so I built some from Alpha 16 in Empyrion. lol

SPACE JAIL!

Also wow, currently having Diersville flashbacks.
(from as far back as A9 or A10?)

Could be, I've only played from alpha 16.4, so it's not that long.:steamhappy:

7d2d was my first survival sandbox, and enjoyed it during alpha15. When 7d2d changed from learn by doing to levels, I lost a lot of enjoyment. I play 7 days with friends still, but my passion burned out.

Empyrion is my current favorite game and has been since I found it. I have been waiting for the galaxy update so i havent played much this year, but once its out and stable, I look foreword to playing empyrion for rest of year.

YMMV

Empyrion is a game that has suddenly got good with the inclusion of interstellar travel. I would wait before stable A12 lands before playing it though.

Why? There's not an infinite variation of planets or biome types. You will see everywhere the same types that you found in the first solar system. The same repetition is generally true of No Man's Sky as well. Creating truly wild one-of-a-kind planets or biomes requires creativity that no one has yet figured out how to embed in a procedural algorithm that otherwise generates normal believable terrain features.

I assume the objective is to get to the centre of the galaxy and doing so becomes increasingly hard. If that is not the case I will be disappointed but consoled that the feature will probably be added in A13.

Generally, i want to know how the enemies in this game play out. I know it has base attacks, but can they actually attack the base? If you move from a base into a large scale ship, can it be attacked? What's it like?

Your base will be attacked by both land troops and air ships as it gets bigger. There is a % chance that goes up the larger and more advanced you get. Once you take out the Drone base on the planet your base is on the attacks will cease (but it's a tough base).

When you moved into a capital ship, you can pretty much base out of there except you can't build a furnace for smelting certain ores. Your capital ship wont be attacked in space, but can be attacked if it's landed on planet with a drone base active.

You can also raid NPC bases on planet and in space. Planet bases will have air support that needs to be taken out before you enter the base, and you attack with hovercraft, small ships or even your capital ship or just on your feet (though you will die if you get pinned by turret fire and NPC patrols that will come for you when you attack. It's pretty challenging. Air support will also come at some point, so if you arent on foot you need auto turrets on your attack craft so it doesnt get oblierated when you are cleaning out the base below.

Ranged shooting NPCs and base defense auto turrets are a good challenge. You will die if you are dumb, and its all about inching along and taking sniper shots a lot. Shotgun troopers are a nightmare if they surprise you, and some of the mech robots hit like a Mack truck from range if you don't carefully scout. You will probably die from base turrets a lot until you learn to use you personal drone to scout ahead.

The melee NPCs are nasty as hell and generally need to be taken out ranged from a location. The alien humanoid melee is a bit wonky and twitchy and not smooth, but if you are meleeing them you have bigger problems as they will shred you with their claws. The scorpions and guard beasts are a good challenge but basically you need lots of bandages, antibiotics and medicals whenever you get forced into melee.

I think ESG AI is vastly superior to 7D2D. Intelligent zombies that slice through concrete is pretty dumb (without modding). ESG has small and capital ships, melee and ranged troops, melee animals... and they attack or defend a lot smarter.

Overall, enemy AI is better than 7D2D by far. Having 2 or 3 friends is very helpful especially on hard more when you get rushed by melee enemies. Retrieving your corpse can sometimes be impossible which adds tremendous risk to the reward of looting epic weapons and rare ores.

7,740 hours in 7DTD. Love it, and IMHO, only comparable to EGS., or vice verse. Loved A16, not 17, liked 18 a lot. To me one good thing about Alpha games and updates is if an update doesn`t please you, play something else til a new update comes. I have 7 Alpha games on the stove warming at all times;). One can be superior to the other in certain mechanics. If they were exactly alike then wow, where`s the fun in that. There`s no way to blend both games, else you would just have space zombies, alien zombies. Each are masterful in their own right, I think. I would definitely recommend Both, these games. Play 7dtd like a prepper. Play EGS like a Treker.

To answer the question, yes the AI will attack your base, yes they will attack your CV, and drones patrol planets so they can also randomly run into you, which can trigger drone ships comming out and dropping troops etc.
And yes they can actually take your base of you.

I have exactly the same opinion. But I was thinking if anyone would tell me that I have to choose between 7DTD and EGS and one of those games I have to remove. Then I would undoubtedly keep Empyrion. Besides right now as you said, I don't like Alpha 17 and 18 either. The only thing I think is better in A18 is that zombies are less disgusting, lol.
