How to use the Furnace!
I have Cargo Controllers hooked up to a Furnace, but there's no way to smelt the ore!

Furnaces use a lot of power. make sure you have a T1 large generator just in case other stuff is using too much power.

If the input and output containers are set, the furnace is turned on, the base has enough power, and you have more than 5 ore then it should just start processing without any further intervention.

(Note that the furnace isn't required to make ingots, in case you didn't already know. It's just faster but the constructor can process ore into ingots.)

Oh and regarding power, cargo extensions use a ton of power so I'd recommend against using the controller/extensions. Just use large cargo boxes (the ones that are two blocks big).

Yeah it had power! It worked eventually.. It seems that it does not show what it is doing when it's working, nor are the slots used for anything! So the Furnace is made with visible slots that really don't do a darn thing.. Great game design! Make something that is not in use.. Awesome! Perfection at it's best! I'm still playing but yeah the cannon turrets ignoring drones and the constant missing solar panels because they gets blow away every attack is really annoying!

Also the constant running out of power after adding 200 Biofuel to the energy storage is stupid! We have the max amount of solars and it is still not enough to run the base when it is idle.. Constructors and Furnace and lights and Kitchen (-fridges) are turned off! Even a cargo container is leeching power and there's no way to turn it off! So If I want my base to look nice I have to use more power..

Mod the game to make passive devices draw no power. Don't ever add antennas or radar; they draw significant power but are merely decorative. I'm sure piddlefoot will jump in to tell us they have great plans for those EVENTUALLY, but meanwhile they are just "deco" and yet draw the same power as 20 lights (though not in my games). It used to be that almost all the deco furniture drew power, too; have they actually stopped doing that, or have I just gotten so used to my mod reducing them all to zero that I haven't noticed?

As for it not showing anything or using the slots, it really does but there seems to be a glitch that does that some times now. I have not used the furnace after the update, but I do know that my constructors do that some times. It does not show anything being made but the output count in the storage box goes up, it works fine but you can not stop anything with out removing the res from the input box. The only way I have found to fix this is to restart my game even then it does not always work.

I try not to use Bio-fuel I tested yesterday I am sure I had everything off using the AC to turn wood into gas, also using bio the run the gen running the AC, and it was costing more to make it than I was making.

I know, but there is a serious issue for me to get my hand on so much Promethium! I cannot power my base sometimes!

I only place furnaces on space bases, the solar on a space base is usually 4k plus. (Face the sun when placing Base starter.)

It doesn't need to be huge or enclosed, I've done some that had nothing more than a core, solar equip, furnace and cargo boxes.

You're not the first one think something isn't working because of that display bug. I forgot about that problem.

Yea, there's a display bug where the activity of a constructor isn't displayed properly. It seems to affect all of the constructor type UIs.

As for prometheum, build a small SV with a detector and you can search the planet pretty quickly. an HV with a detector can work decently as well.

The little blue SV prefab (add detector) is great for just exploring and offing golems for ore/promethium/XP. SV_Prefab_Tier1c

You are aware that you can use Biofuel in any fuel tank? You have to go into the Fuel interface and add it manually.

Yep! Thanks for the info, we got a Auto miner running on some deposits now.. Seems to be more sustainable.. But only if the depletion setting is off..

I think there might be some operator head space here.

I use my furnace to smelt ore into bars every day. I have a container to hold the ore and a container to hold the bars. I always have the furnace turned off when not in use. When I want to smelt ore to bars I turn the furnace on. This can be done in two location. In the furnace itself by a toggle button. or from the device menu by selecting the device and activating it.
It works every single time for me.

I was also having an issue (or so I thought) with my furnace not operating, even when turned on, and with proper input and output containers, Until I did some reading on the wiki about the furnace and it *seems* like it will only smelt ores in groups of 5? So if you have only a couples ores, they won't smelt until more ore is added. At least that is my experience thus far.

yep, it takes 5 ore to make 10 ingots (same as 1 click in the constructors) -they dont give change :P
btw this is a rather old thread, but it is nice to see people using search gg
