I have been trying for nearly 2 decades to find that combination of game elements again.
Empyrion has some of the elements and is the closest I've found it has a LONG way to reach that level.
Though to be honest I've kept away from MP, so that colors my opinion some.
Yeah I haven't tried multiplayer yet either, but I definitely agree that there will never be another SWG, probably not even close to what it was, and that game came out in 2003 I believe. We are in a different era.
The profession system of player progression was absolutely Awesome. Former Master Combat Medic/Pistoleer. Heals and combat heck yeah.
I love the Sandbox nature of Empyrion. I can build and tweak and test.
For me the combat is third or 4th on my list of important things.
I miss my Guildies from that era we had a blast. Hunting Krayt or Whatever resources our crafters needed. I made MILLIONs mining for contracts.

Fans kept it alive.
The absolute best crafting system, imo, would be a combination of SWG and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. You make a game that combines those two systems and you will Win The Internet.
The instructions are straightforward. I never played the game, but I'm considering it now that I have read about it.
If you really think crafting has anything to do with SWG, then you have never understood crafting in SWG.
I was one of two bio engineers who understood the system behind it in the first place (at least on our server) before it was simplified (pre cu). The complexity of the different raw materials alone ....
I was a musician, sniper and creature handler at the same time... the skill-based system of SWG... a dream...
I single-handedly owned a large Tattoine Guildhall and converted it as a public bath with sauna etc.... Alone because you could rename every scrapped item... So a battle staff quickly became a grid staff and the chassis of a medicrobot became a torture master...
You really don't know what you are talking about...
As a SWG player of the first hour I feel almost insulted that you can only think that.
No Man's Sky and Empyrion does something similar as well. But in No Man's Sky, I cannot really pilot a ship myself that is bigger then a very small fighter-(ish) and in Empyrion I can even commandeer/''pilot'' the biggest ships (amazing), but the overall-lore of the game (a.k.a storyline /background storyline etc.) is kinda kinda weak in comparasion to SWG. But then again, I cannot* blame Empyrion for it for so many reasons! For example, SWG was built upon the lore of the legendary Star Wars itself (as the name of the game implies yepp :D) and it was to my knowledge a Triple-A game.
