Since there doesn't seem to be an option for sleeping in a bed in multiplayer, is there a server command to skip to morning time?

You might be able to set the time of the day, but there is no skip command.

There's no option for "sleeping" - skipping forward in time in the game - in multiplayer because you're sharing the same flow of time as everyone else. How exactly would that work that didn't lead to multiple exploits, like a player hopping into bed to thwart another player's attack against him or his base? Altering the flow of time for just one player of many in a shared environment is even less feasible than daylight saving time. That means that every player has to endure the boring periods of gameplay. The alternative is to play solo or perhaps just co-op with another person, where you can have complete control over things like the flow of game time.

Vulcan gave the elaborate answer :)

In Minecraft, players can hop onto a bed at night. If all players are in bed for several seconds, the game skips to morning.

Though I imagine in Empyrion, the different planets have different day lengths.

I'm playing coop with a friend so what are the options for changing the time? Will that affect how plants grow?

Changing the game time could affect plant growth; I haven't seen that happen, but I have seen it affect food expiration both ways, making food spoil prematurely or the other extreme, adding HUNDREDS of time units to expiration (though it may have also involved crossing a planet's "dateline"). Would those be considered bugs, or just the consequence of mucking with the time stream?

If you're playing co-op and have control of the server, then you should be able to use any console command you like, including the time command that would be relevant here. Type help in the console to see a list of all the commands. Some are VERY handy, almost necessary. Just be aware of possible side effects if you move the clock hands around.

That may work in Minecraft but won't work in Empyrion. The whole server shares one time and there are too many people to do it like in Minecraft.

We have servers with over 170 max players already.
Because of those high population servers, the devs don't even want to try to do it like Minecraft. It would technically work, but they don't want to do it that way.

A server admin can always use the time commands to skip time though.

I've tried the command on my dedicated server to change game time, but it always reverts to the time before I attempted to change it.

Not only this, but even for players on the same planet but the other side of it it's actually morning when for the player wanting to skip the night it's evening. You'd skip for one player until morning but for another to evening, and then that another player would want to skip until morning. At this point I'd call it a skipping time game. :P

It would technically work only for players on the same longitude. I just imagined 170 bases spread in straight line from north to south of a planet...
