Can't place Core
Well, I've started a new game because I realized I had screwed up some in the construction of my base (the core was way away from the building itself), and I have managed to make a good base next to the large wreckage.

Problem now is that I have managed to explore the MS TItan's three parts, and I have built a Base Core to take all the stuff in them, but for some reason I can't place it (the game claims that there's some other object in place). Before you ask, yes, I have destroyed the original core.

Can it be done with the Base Core and I am doing something wrong, or is the problem that I have to put a different kind of Core?

You only need a 'Starter Block' to create a new <thing> to take over an existing <thing> you just need a core.
Starter blocks are under 'Blocks' a core is under 'Devices'.

I usually just make a core and pop it somewhere after the original (alien) core is destroyed. So what you are doing should work.

Correct. However Milarqui states a couple of times 'base core' leading me to believe he's using the starter block as there is not such thing as a base core. There's only core which can be used to creat base,hv,sv,cv starter blocks.

I know that. What I am trying to place is the block for creating a base.

Which if you had fully read that post would know is the wrong way to do what you are trying to do.

just place a normal, everyday core.

This. You are using a starter block. If you want to take over a preexisting structure you just use a plain old core.

Also, you can move your core around. If it's in the wrong place.

OK, I realized what I was doing wrong. Thank you, guys! I now have a third of a ship under my control, and soon to be dismantled. I will be able to build my own capital vessel with these materials...
Next stop, Alien Base!

You don't need to place a core to just dismantle it. Just destroy the original core. You only need to place your own core if you want to recover the actual blocks it's made from. Most of the time that's unnesesary. Just salvage it.

Yeah, well, problem is that I wouldn't be getting things like the elevators or the fridge.

You're right, my bad. I also forgot that you only get max 66% from salvage if it's not yours.
