Empyrion - Galactic Survival

Empyrion - Galactic Survival

15 fps?
I recently bought (and refunded, for this reason) Empyrion. On the lowest settings @1080p I got 15-20 fps, which is odd since other games such as Space Engineers, Rainbow Six, Rising Storm 2, etc run great at 60 fps medium settings. Any help would be appreciated.

Ryzen 7 1700 8 core @3.0 GHz

Radeon RX 550 4gb

16 gb RAM

This game is in develepment, such games are usualy far away from being optimized like the allready released titles you list above, at the other end your gpu is a low end card.

I guess then that my GTX 760 Ti OEM is now outdated as well. Sad>

Yes its pretty dated mate at 2013 when it was released, even a 2015, GTX980 will eat it for breakfast and theres way better graphics cards out now.

Your card only has 2GB of video ram, Empyrion likes 4GB cards best.

I was really dissapointed with the RX550 line and heres why, this is the specs from a GTX980 card made in 2015,

GTX 980 Engine Specs:
2048CUDA Cores
1126Base Clock (MHz)
1216Boost Clock (MHz)
144Texture Fill Rate (GigaTexels/sec)
GTX 980 Memory Specs:
7.0 GbpsMemory Clock
4 GBStandard Memory Config
GDDR5Memory Interface
256-bitMemory Interface Width
224Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec)

YesCUDA

4 displaysMulti Monitor
YesHDCP

Thermal and Power Specs:
98 CMaximum GPU Tempurature (in C)
165 WGraphics Card Power (W)
500 WRecommended System Power (W)**
2x 6-pins

And here are the specs of the rx550, this card was released in 2017 and really is a step backwards.

GENERAL

Graphics Engine AMD Radeon RX 550

Core Clock 1203 MHz
Stream Processors 512
Process Technology 14 nm
MEMORY---Size 4 GB
Bus Width 128-bit
Technology GDDR5 SDRAM

VIDEO
Graphics Processor AMD Radeon RX 550
VIDEO OUTPUT
Type graphics card
Interface Type PCI Express 3.0 x16

Graphics Processor Manufacturer AMD
Graphics Processor AMD Radeon RX 550
Clock Speed 1203 MHz
Stream Processors Qty 512
Process Technology 14 nm
Max Monitors Supported 6
Max External Resolution 4096 x 2160
API Supported DirectX 12

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Required Power Supply 350 Watt

VIDEO MEMORY
Technology GDDR5 SDRAM
Installed Size 4 GB
Memory Clock Speed 7 GHz
Bus Width 128-bit

When you compare these cards for raw horsepower the GTX980 utterly smashes it and its much older.
The 980 has double the memory bandwidth at 224GB a second more cuda cores, more stream processor and a larger texture fill rate, its killing that card for lunch.

So when buying a graphics card its worth investigating them because card companies like nothing more than selling older tech as new tech !

To beat the 980 specs, even today, your going to be spending some serious dosh.

Want to get a card twice as good as a GTX 980 get a GTX 2080 or better the GTX 2080 ti !

And then morgage the house !

Empyrion uses the Unity Engine, to even run the Unity without massive memory leaks you need a 4 ghz cpu, not turbo 4ghz, basic operating speed. this game is so stupidly unoptimized you cant even get more than 20% use out of your graphics card until you fix the bottlenecks.

currently the only cpu's that can run this game are the new ryzens or intels. i would hold off to upgrade a pc tho until april when the new 64 lane chips come out and we can all gain benift from having graphics cards water cooled in sli

the other main bottlenexk is the HDD, without an m.2 drive you'll be suffering a serious hiccup as well

a solid amount of memory is needed that has a low cas and fast speed is still super expensive. i wouldnnt go above cas 17 preferable 14/15 and yoou need atleast 32gb because of the memory leaks.

in most cases theres not much performance gain of the 2080ti over the 1080ti ... the real way to upgrade your performance is going to be the processor at that point.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6400 CPU @ 2.70GHz
Memory: RAM: 8Gb
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB

Also @1080p lowest settings (with a few tweaked up). Game stored on HD.

30-60 fps. Other than occasional stuttering it works fine.

Edit: That's SP. Don't know about MP.
