Take a look on the workshop and download blueprints from an awesome range of ships and bases. Spawn them and you don't need to build pretty... let others do that. :)

Yeah but then the game is not fun at all... I mean the only thing you do in the game is build and then explore and then build again...

Nice bad review on the game. Sounds to me you just not cut out of sandboxing game. Quit trolling and find another game to play.

im..."ok"...at designing original ships but i excel at taking others work and making it better(subjective).
i get endless hours of enjoyment doing that and making sure any ship we use is the best it can be for our needs.
so just take something you like the look of and make it your own.

Step 1: Download other people's creations
Step 2: Become inspired by their designs
Step 3: Go into creative
Step 4: Build something

Haha, how many times have we heard this? Thing is, most everyone here couldn't make pretty ships in the beginning. It takes hours if not weeks to build something you are proud of. I dont know if you are trolling or if it is your way of asking for help. Doesn't matter, because someone else may be looking for advice on building pretty. Play around with the blocks flipping and turning them all directions and build something simple, tear it apart if you aren't. Happy and do it again. Get some bp's off the workshop and tear those down to see how they were put together ( reverse engineer ) and just take your time. There are vessels out there that took people months to build, and then they went back and revised them later. My first CV was a box with a smaller box in front of it and had headlights lol. But now I have learned how to make smooth edges and angles and my stuff comes out pretty :)....but lots of times....even after nearly 2000hrs, I still spend 3hrs in making something, just to look at it and say.....nope.....don't like it, and tear it back down to the core and start over.If you came into this game liking to build.....then build. Go into MP as well and make some friends and get help with things. Most people like showing off their skills.

So do I mate but they don't have to be pretty! I make it fun and call them daft names like 'THE BEST' or 'HUNK O JUNK' Make it fun mate!

Who cares about "pretty"? So long as it does what you made it for.

Back in 2012, some of the best designs in Starmade were simply cubes, or gloridied flying boxes. There were a number of vids, but this is the first one I've found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxsEc5q5RQM

One of main drawcards in making an ugly mother of a ship is to hide vital components from enemy fire. I haven't played the new update yet, with the popup turrets, but in previous builds I've used ramps & roller doors to act as shields over weapons & turrets.

I still can't make pretty ships, and I'm most proud of the the ugliest ones

I still don't build anything good looking or what one would want to copy and use, but I sure am better than I was 3 years ago, lol, go get a few BP of things you want to use or parts of, then place them in creative and take them apart slow and easy to see how they go together and where they are in the materials list/groups and you'll get the hang or ways to make the parts fit or together which is the hardest part, IMHO, start slow and make just simple/easy builds and then add more integrate shapes and designs as your learning/growing, nothing is ever done in a day or hour, times is the only factor and how you learn patience to do so,

I cant design jack, but I like taking old stuff off the market and redoing them to work better, was always a mechanic my whole life.

from your review it would seem it has nothing to do with ship building
you loved the game in v7 but dont like it since v8, thats fine its your opinion and right to do so
but v8 hasnt changed the ship or base building enough to warrent that change of heart

as suggested you can rebuild workshop bp's to your liking if your worried about building 'pretty ships' but as you have been playing since v7 or earlier i have to assume you knew that already

i am sorry that you dont like the new updates, i like most of them but not all myself
its still a good game for me, but if you dont wish to play anymore ...

dont, thats a choice you must make for yourself

you do know you can still play v6 and/or v7 from the experimental tab right?
if not, you can, they keep both of these older versions available just for people like yourself that either dont want the new updates or dont want to lose the saves they had/have

Takes a lotttttt of practice. Everytime i make a monstrosity i don't like in the end i still realize ive learned something new doing it, which is neat. Built plenty of custom bases that have looked great (though i got that from over 3000 hours on ARK:Survival Evolved, and that build system isn't forgiving)
