Auto Turrets friend or foe (the NPC kind)
how can I turn my turrets so they will defend me but not attack all the peacefull npcs.
I flew to a trader station and my turrets went nuts on it.
Same with areas like the farms or residence places.

if your in sp or pve you might try unchecking the "Other Factions" option in the turret page of the control panel but im not sure if they are other factions or aliens
i am pretty certain that the 'enemy' npc's (drones) are aliens so you need that one

ya ive tried that, i was in combat with a freightor that my guns attacked which was not hostile, but then it became hostile, once i killed all of its turrets, cause i had attack engines and gen turned off. I started playing with the settings.

if i have attack one of the parts after that little space ticked on. but nothing above the gap ticked, they wont attack at all.
i have to have aliens turned on for them to attack troops and sometimes it will work on the ships parts, but i think i need other faction ticked on for them to shoot at drones.

kinda sucks that your turrets will go ape on those crew guys standing around in the POIs.

They REALY! need a setting of friend and hostile.
where everything is marked as friend till you manually shoot it first, or if they shoot at you first.

Right now you are pretty much screwed. If you change it so it doesn't fire on them, the turret won't shoot down drones when you want them to.

There is lots of room for improvement with the turret ai. I'm sure they will get around to it sooner or later.

I just park behind a hill or rock or far enough away that the turrets don't see the friendly village. Then I hike in the rest of the way.

ya so it seems like you need to keep them turned off when flying around cause ive had my turrets on the capital vessel attack things that dident even show up as a blip on my radar yet.

For turrets, set them to shoot the following:
Alien
Turrets.

This will let them still fire on enemy drones (they count as alien) but will stop them from firing on most neutral targets or other players.
They will also fire on the turrets of alien patrol vessels to help defend you from them.

Neutral settlements count as part of the alien faction but they typically lack turrets so your turrets should not fire on civilian settlements if you use the targeting options I listed above.

ok ill try, i have alien, other faction, predator ticked on, then for the bottom group i only have turret and mounted weapon.

i think i should leave predator on though. not sure what that is counted as but sounds hostile lol

wish i could set them all at once, i currently have 18 turrets on my ship

Predators are hostile wild life forms like plant monsters, spiders, or those alien bugs that shoot homing plasma at you. It can be a waste of ammo or it could keep you safe, depending on where you are.

Zirax and their drones and mechs are covered under alien.

i tried this and it works great, but even turning on other factions and pred for some reason my turrets wont attack turrets on land bases.
is this normal?

Factions is for PVP means other players. You want just Alien selected to attack alien bases.
heh i kept getting crushed cause i think i needed to get better than tier 1 or CV and tier 3 SV on the planet that has large drones and patrol ships.

so i started over on the experimental, WOW. out of the box, so much different, feels like a bran new game

ya i actually turned every tick box on, and my CV turrets would only attack humanoid enemys and the drones. they would attack the turrets of any ship, but not a POI land base for some reason.

reguardless im now on 8 experimental, so we will see when i get back up to the vessel content.

the turret option on ai fire control has been broken for awhile you will have to take them out yourself for now.it does not shoot turrets as intended atm.

In Alpha 9 now, turret control has caused me an issue in that if the NPC factions are chosen and NPC's Drones and Players are selected it seems to target any NPC, either this or a stray bullet of mine ended up killing a friendly NPC causing me a world of problems dropping from Honored to unfriendly, turning off NPC factions stops my turrets shooting down drones whereas the choice would be better to target drones and not NPC's, is there a way around this that you have found?


EDIT: It appears a single stray bullet into a friendly NPC is enough to cause this nightmare making them unfriendly and as such become a target for the turrets, just gotta take more care around them it seems.
