Can't figure out how to get a core so I can build my first base.. portable constructor can not build one.. cant find one to loot..

You need a Base Starter Block.
Which needs a core as an ingredient which should be made automatically when you order it.
The Tech Tree page (F3) shows you what type Constructor will build certain devices with the colour coded squares there.
Devices need to be unlocked in the Tech Tree but Base Starter Blocks are level 1.
A portable constructor can build cores and Base Starter Blocks.
Are you looking at the right TAB menu in the Constructor menu?

When starting a new base, you need a base starter kit
This is a whitish block with a building icon on it, which can be found in the portable constructor under the blocks tab

I finally found the core so I can build a starter block, man that was a pain in the as, almost gave up. The search function said portable constructor cant build it but it can if you can find it on the list..

You don't need to build a Core first to build a Base Starter block. Just build the Base Starter block and since it requires a core the Constructor will build it automatically. Anything that is made up of different components works that way. Just click to build the finished item and the constructor will build the components for it automatically.
