And Yea, a HV works (ish) in space.. but it can't decend.. so docking back up is a bit of a hassle..
I've tried sticking thrusters on the top on bottom, but they won't do anything by help stabilize the craft, Space bar does nothing, C does nothing.. so am I missing a control or something?
I also imagine SV's would be easier to use to drill on planets... my HV's tend to go upsidedown and get all squirrely in a hole because it's always trying to hover from whatever happeneds to be underneath the hoverengines, regardless of if it is infact the ceiling.
Sucks that they removed the abbility to make them placable on SV's. But it does sound like they are planning some turrets for SV's, and maybe a drill option will be included.
I hope so.. HV's are great on flat planets, but drilling with them is confusing as hell, you flip upside down in a tight hole and prepare to spend minutes trying to find out which way is up..
Drills on an SV, especially the laser drills would probably be easier, not to mention very useful for asteroid harvesting. doing it manually is getting a little tedious, and I found that a drill turret on a CV isn't that much better, however, my CV may have been too large and cumbersom for the task.
Do you know any good asteroid harvesting CV on the workshop? perhaps I could use it like I would a SV and dock it on a larger CV..
Though trying to find all the little ore on every asteroid can be difficult, especially Iron ore, which pretty much looks like any old rock. Is there a trick I'm missing?
Or I'll have to keep relying on autominers, too bad those can't be placed in space..
I too have managed to get the HV turrets and drills into the SV tech tree, and made other adjustments necessart for allowing their use in space as well as on planets, etc., but it's all for naught because they're still not placeable on SVs. Do I need to begin a whole new game after making such changes?
AllowPlacingAt: "SS,GV", display: true
You'll want to add that line to the HV manual drills and then they'll be placeable on HV's and SV's
AllowPlacingAt: "SS,GV,MS", display: true
You'll want to add that line to the harvester cargo box and then it'll be placeable on HV's SV's and CV's.
They removed the line from the example because it caused too many issues with faulty bug reports due to people modifying things. Use it at your own risk.
Don't forget to change the name of the config file as well and restart the game or server for the changes to take affect.
SS stands for SV
GV stands for HV
Base stands for Base
MS stands for CV
Use it wherever.
You can add turrets to SV's but they will be manual fire only. No AI auto fire for defending the SV.
Also keep in mind that if you modify and rename the config file you won't get any of the new changes that may be made in updates unless you modify a brand new config file and rename it every time.
I've tried editing the config, now to test it :)
EDIT: I believe you need to find the line that says " AllowAt: "Planet"" and change it to AllowAt: "UnderWater, Planet, Space" as well, otherwise it will only work on planets, and not in space.
And underwater in case I want to build a base underwater... considering water isn't fluid and won't flow into a base set in the rock beneath a lake that might be a fun thing to do..
