The survival constructor is only meant to make the most basic stuff/essential things to get you started. You need to build a better constructor first.
a priori, it would only be available online on a server.
I have the cubes but not the plates.
It's frustrating, especially since it takes 5 plates to make a large block of armored steel.
Is this a bug?

TIP 1: Always try to make Public structures Private ones that you own before dismantling them, if you can. If you don't own the structure, you lose some of the materials that you would otherwise receive back if you did own it.
TIP 2: You can recover components from those unwanted whole blocks by building them onto a structure you own and then using the Deconstruct function to break them down. Some of us have suggested that this should also be a secondary purpose of the Furnace (throw in blocks to "melt down" and get back components or ingots), but so far that suggestion has not been implemented.
