Empyrion - Galactic Survival

Jerky Screens
I thought after 3 months away I'd come back and get into Empyrion again.

Sadly it's just not playale as the game has become very jerky as if the camera man is freezing and shivering to death.

Despite everything I can think of (settings wise) and redownloading the game it is unplayable.

Before anyone asks I have high end specs and can run any modern game easily.

The game stresses your CPU quite a lot.
Just disconnecting my Gamer Laptop (which reduces CPU speed) makes the game pretty jerky.

MP suffers more than SP (and depends on the server).

The developer team is improving the situation in the worst cases (one of the recent patches fixes "CPU spikes") but for the full-power optimizations we will probably need to wait until later.

It makes sense to focus first on the game mechanics and to finalize the important features before opimizing the GPU again and again.

I was in SP. MP must be a nightmare.

Everyone claims to have high end specs when they make CLAIMS that the game is unplayable. Then you find out that well theyhave the best PC money can buy but their internet is garbage. Or that they bought the very best GPU only to have a CPU that is years old.

You may see the game as unplayable but FACT is that is only your opinion. Fact remains that 100's of people play this game daily. So how is it that so many CAN play the game and you claim it to be unplayable unless it is something on your end? Ever think that maybe just maybe because you have that high end PC and that this is an unfinished game that there is the issue? Try play at other resolutions or perhaps there is something else Google will suggest you do. Then you will see the game is very much playable.

I have an

i7 4770 3.4GHz
16GB RAM
on SSD
WIth a 1060 6GB VRAM

I have no issues with the game at all as you describe it. Are there some issues sure its a game in the making and will never run perfect until they are DONE with the game.

Perhaps your real issue is you want too much out of Early Access games? They are not meant to be fully playable in this stage.

Apart from not having SSD mine is almost identical to yours. I've been using computers for about 30+ years so I know exactly what I am talking about regarding set ups. I also know exatly what is meant by EA. Thank you for being very condescending.

The game being unplayable for me is not an opinion, it's a fact. Even with minmum settings the view is very shakey. You cannot play a game like that.

My computer is a low end PC

AMD Six-Core 3.4 ghz
16 GB Ram
Nvidia GTX 1050 ti 4GB
Windows 10
1.5 TB HDD
Internet is just mid-range 250 mb down/50 mb up

No jerkiness here, avg frames could stand to be better but they are at an acceptable 50 to 70

Hey, Not-a-bot! I have a system with the exact specs you have and I am also experiencing some problems. I don't think it's your system and it's definitely not the difference between HDD and SSD as I have both and neither are the problem. We even have an old i3 with a 640GTX and it runs the game great.

I'm experiencing some graphic artifacts which could relate to the engine currently being used. I don't think it's your machine but it might help to bug report it.

It's always nice to be helped instead of trolled, isn't it? Good luck and hope to see you in game!

There might be some confusion about who has which specs, since I did not post any info about my specs yet.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4720HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz
8 logical processors
4 physical processors
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M
RAM: 16296 Mb
SSD drive

They may need to adjust timings again, Ive been getting that freeze frame on some games also.

Bound to have little issues like this pop up through development from time to time.

I have a brand new comp myself and the freezes and FPS lag i get is just dumb. Also the people commenting to tell someone there computer is crap to explain away ALOT of people are having issues with good computers getting crappy FPS and freezing issues. I have heard that its EAC causing issues to CPU over taxing. People dont seem to be able to have any FIXES just commentary on why it has to be your computer. This game is in dire need of optimizing. I my self think its a combo of the game in current state needing alot of GPU memory CPU power and reg system memory to run smoothly. That is the thing tho i have a brand new ryzen 32gb of fast memory a 1080ti with 6gb of memory and a m slot ssd that is not a cheepy and i get less than 20fps and random freezes from once every 1-2 mins to none for around 30 mins or so. As a further point i use to have a 2008 gaming laptop duo core 8gb of memory in pre 7.0 ran smoothly. Now its unplayable on it so something is up with the game and what requirements are needed. I need a fix and there are alot of us that do.

This is basicly the gist of graphic performance in EA.

As an owner & player of several games in EA i guess (based on past expirience), that the game will first get worse performance from update to update untill they do a dedicated "cleanup" session, also known as a performance improvement patch, which will make it run better for most players.

Why does the games' performance get worse instead of better right now, you ask? Imagine a table on to which you put stuff. After a while of just putting more and more stuff on the table - which is going on now - you get a crowded and barely useful table. For the table to get useful, you need to do a clean-up & arranging session, in which you spend some time only sorting and arranging the stuff already on the table. After that, the table will become useful for most people, unless they have a too big box (as in a PC with too low specs) for the cleaned-up table altogether.

Ditto on the micro-stuttering every X seconds like it's clockwork. I can't even play the game for more than 10-15 minutes until they fix this. Fixing performance issues that bad should be a *TOP* priority. I'm not asking for perfection here. I'm just asking to not micro-stutter every few seconds.

PC specs:

Ryzen 1600x OC'd to 3.95ghz
16GBs DDR4 3200mhz (OC'd)
GTX 1080ti
480GB SSD
Windows 10 pro 64 bit.

@OP,
I think most people are not having that huge of an issue, so it must be something unique about your system. I have 2 systems and it runs fine on both. That said, there are a few short blips every now and then, about 3-5 minutes, perhaps 100ms freeze.... really just an annoyance. I play SP and MP and really don't have issues with either, aside from a rare resync issue when changing playfields a lot.

Last night i did start a voodoo V3 game and had an incredible studder to it that lasted maybe 30 seconds, then was gone. Perhaps building terrain. It sounds like what you are experiencing, but all the time?

To me it sounds like you are running low on available RAM, and its thrashing, or the CPU is being heavily used for other tasks. Do you have any other programs running at the same time? Perhaps try to restart windows and turn off other startup programs?

Other things to try: check for virus or malware. Maybe someone is mining bitcoins on your video card :D, See what other processes are running that might be hogging RAM or CPU cycles.

How big is your monitor? If its huge it might make an impact because of more pixs to push around. Try playing the game in a smaller window?

As far as optimization is concerned, that will be one of the last things to be done. They would be foolish to optimize now, as it makes development MUCH harder after optimization. Its one of the key rules in softward design, don't optimize too early.
