Point of truss blocks?
I notice that truss blocks have 1/2 the hit points of steel blocks, but cost the same to produce.

So whats the practical point of them existing, exactly? Why use truss blocks instead of steel blocks?

Think they weigh less? or have a higher structural integrity for longer limbs or something.. I dunno. They might get reworked eventually cause I think they've been the same for a while.

varity of things personally . IE. I use them as support beams and beams for my growlights when I make a green house for my garden

I use them for Immersion when building, like for "scafolding" and "gantries" around my ships Im building in my shipyard, as well as supporting the lighting and walkways. Makes it look more like a real shipyard I think.

It is also useful if you want to make a "old" ship or station, it lets you get the older look like our stuff today has.

so, mostly its a PVE block, would serve no useful purpose in PVP.

It's a lighter block than a steel block, so it might be usefull in the future when you want to lessen the weight of your ship. I use it as a spacer for fuel tank so when one gets hit the others don't explode at the same time.

It's a balance thing, will get balanced eventually.

They were introduced because you can frame up with them and they contrast heavily with standard blocks , so easy to see the different blocks amoung thousands, and because they are the fastest to remove with tool gun.

There framing blocks.

They may become unbalanced, happens every now and then but Zaphodikus is spot on, they will sort it sooner or later.

Truss blocks do not currently take paint very well. I think they used to take paint in the past, but do not seem to any longer, else I would use them for more than just rough outlining. I use them a lot in creative mode.

The development work is moving really fast in this game, and mostly I worry that it will release soon and then slow down or change radically. Either way I wish the guys the best and for now ignore all the tweaks that are just math and configuration.

I never thought about it that way, but @piddlefoot usually makes sense in one line.

I would have to jump into the game to comfirm, but I am fairly sure that they produce two blocks for the same cost of one steel block.

(edit) went and checked they one to one, they must have changed it because I remeber them being produced 2 to 1

Hm interesting. I just love the way they look lol. Helps create a more industrial aesthetic that I usually go for. I'm sure they'll balance it better one of these days

I have no idea why they are called "Truss Blocks" because structurally they are no stronger than other standard blocks and calling them "Truss" implies structural strength.

So this is misleading.

in SE, the truss block is simply a stage of being built to a full block. besides being the first stage when building, it's been a while but from what i remember, it shows up as you damage the block as well for it to be repaired. i would like to see more standard blocks have stages like this instead of only having a dent before disappearing completely.
