Let's build coruscant!
Is there a thread for, "Add your bad@$$ building here" that way we can have a fully immersive city with a huge skyline, bc apparently it isn't this one:

I'm not complaining about the addition of settlements not being enough. They look amazing btw, but I am dying to be able to fly to an area that is the center of commerce, Government, Trade, etc. This game needs a planet that is just Coruscant. With so many great builds, it'd be nice to see them put into a small city that we can tour. this would be a great addition for multiplayer servers as well. Anyways it's just a suggestion after all.

Coruscant is by no means a 'small city'. Question, though: what's stopping you from putting something like this together yourself? Find an empty planet and spawn in all the biggest buildings/ships/structures you want? Just curious, nothing more :)

I know I certainly haven't had trouble doing this, and this screenie only captures about 10% of the city outside the hangar ;)

Just go easy on the amount of lights & windows you use they can kill fps if too many.
That was the beginning of my city before i cut it up so i could post them all seperately to the civilian structure thread. I have 5 mega structures bigger than any skyscraper on the workshop, but i havent had time to finish them all yet. I just meant coruscant size buildings, buildings so large that there is no need for the undercity. Just imagine the sheer scale of each build lol, my cousin and i have started construction on our server to implement this although we are only using steel blocks with no devices. Its pretty cool though and you can still use light textures to brighten it up a bit. As a star wars fan i am aware of coruscant's size and i dont think we'll ever be able to load a full scale version of new york in a voxel build, let alone an entire city planet lol. But hey we can always start small and see what we can accomplish

A bunch of big, but basically empty structures? Nah, I can't imagine it'd be all that bad. The city I've setup on one of my planets, yes. It's maxed on structures, with the majority of them being very large skyscrapers/towers from the Workshop.

It was a bad decision. But it looks cool!
Depends on the computer. Ive had several star destroyers, spacestations and an armada of other tier 6 craft on my game all in Akua orbit and i havent experienced any lag whatsoever. Graphics and settings to the max

If devices are the only problem, just need to be ultra efficient with them. Need to light up space with as few lights as possible, which means that most lights will be pretty bright & at max radius to minimize the use. I can light up basically all my (admittedly really small) CV with like 6 lights doing this! It might limit deco options, so you'd have to make do with pure block deco as much as possible. I believe Piddlefoot posted something awhile back saying that even a 4km long structure did not introduce significant lag, if it had very few devices. I think this project is completely doable honestly as long as these things are kept into consideration.

Well the way we did it so far is only building the important structures where you can explore inside. The rest are just shells. Just wondering; does anyone know how games like gta 5 can have to much detail and large cities, then games like this require so much memory. I figured it was the fact that its only rendering a static 3 dimensional city whereas in this game its loading all the individual voxels per structure. That would be awesome if they had the team members to crank out some mass effect or halo style cities using non-voxel, but then it would require a large number of game designers that a small dev like empyrion wouldnt be able to afford
Well i experimented and the results were exactly what i expected. im going to try a city with no devices tomorrow and see how that works. 16 fps is what it dropped to lol

this bp uses over 40,000 steel blocks in its current state, and if i trim the fat i can cut off around 50k of them.there really was no significant fps drop when using only iron, however the bp im using still has around 300 devices, so i should be getting even better fps if i narrow it down to steel blocks and a core. there is really no need to go out any further bc with the max FOV they begin popping out of range. this is about half of what is really there. I just threw them down there, but if you make each grid the same and use admin tools to place them via modular tools you could fit them tight enough together you wouldnt have a gap between structures. Im guessing without the devices it should bring this bp back to around 40-50 fps. i will finish textures on the buildings and upload the bp as soon as i can so yall can set up a city if you want.
