Abandoned Mine
Been awhile since I played much, started (hard settings) on Akua. Went after the abandoned mine. Found the core, but cannot get through the armored window block - 1200hp and explosives only do 50 points. Am I missing something or do I need 24 explosives to do 1200 damage) to get through a window?

No, usually 1-3 will do it. You place them on the block and usually the explosion will take out the core, often without taking out the block.

Unless things have changed, there are three switches on the wall separating you from the core, flip the switches in the correct pattern and the explosive blocks on either side of the core will explode, removing the core for you.

Must be on an older save, the switches are only generated in games started in the newest updates. Before 6.0 you had to blow your way in, I think it was 8-9 satchel charges in the last version.

I saw the switches- paranoia set in and I used explosives first- no more switches. So my only option is to use 24 sets of explosives to get through an armored window?

Rocket launcher work as well.

They have started to move cores back a square now so explosive won't easily destroy them without taking out the window/grill etc..

I use my plasma cannons. Fill my ship up with plenty of ammo for it and take those grills & windows down. :)

Umm, I don't trust those switches. I often find hidden spawner rooms with trap doors near the core. I take the subtle "Blow the heck out of everything" approach :D

Something I did in one game was to spawn a tiny HV bunker buster next to the core, blew it up, then dismantled the HV and put it back in the factory. However, most cores are pretty easy to take down on the current version.

I have a small SV, literally 3x3x3 that i fly through doors and down elevator shafts. It has 6 cargo blocks on it, and one has it's "peripherals" stored. I have an ammo box witha gatling gun and some ammo, o2 tank with o2 station and a couple of bottles, armor locker, mobile constructor, fridge, and 1 landing gear(for docking).
I literally fly this through bases, if i need to blow out an armored door, or combat steel blocks, i quickly set up the gun and ammo box and go to town. then just remove the 2 parts, store them and continue on. I thought it would be cumbersome but with practice it's become quite efficient, and i have tons of storage so i never need to run all the way out to dump at the ship.
But it has come in very handy against cores encased in armored blocks. The gatling gun cuts through them in about 100 rounds or so(i've never counted)
