Locally or over WAN? To the router or to the server PC?
It is entirely possible your router is set to ignore ping requests, hence the questions above.
I am guessing you mean router here (which could ALSO be the modem), since modems have no routing capabilities on their own.
Firstly, DMZ is dangerous and I wouldn't use it unless for testing purposes. What you do need to do is ensure the server executable is let through any and all firewalls (including Windows).
Given you said you had it running previously, have you checked to ensure the server IP is the same (if you did not set it to static), since otherwise your port forwards may be broken.
On a related note though, I have seen a few threads like this popping up recently and am beginning to wonder if a recent update has screwed something up here.
Bot computers are plugged into the same switch which is connected via another switch to my modem/router from my isp; My friends could connect to the server through the internet. They saw my server in the server list ingame. I never did but it seems that this is normal as my gamepc is in the same network as the server pc. ( server pc = another regular pc where i have installed steamcmd and empyrion server on it )
With ping i mean the ping command in ms dos ( command prompt from windows ).
I can not ping to my server pc so it looks like there is no connection but i can connect with the same pc to minecraft servers which are installed on the same server pc as empyrion.
That is why i am a bit lost.
The server has still the same IP and i am sure about that as i would not be able to connect to my minecraft servers otherwise.
Server pc = 192.168.0.25
My game pc = 192.168.0.220
If i don't place the server pc as a DMZ in the modem/router of my isp then i can't reach him. Don't know why but i know that this is the case. ( My provider is Telenet in Belgium and they are a real pain in the ass ).
As you said it seems more ppl have problems lately and i was also starting to think that the problem is not here in my home but more related to changes they mad in Empyrion.
But to be sure more ppl should test this to see if they can start a new server from scratch.
Normaly to connect to my empyrion server i had to put the ip 192.168.0.25:30000 in the game and then it worked. Now it isn't. Other players had to go via my external ip which is logic ;)
I hope I gave enough info.
After i did the update of this empyrion server i didn't saw the creative server anymore.
Which is also weird because nothing changed except the game files.
This makes me think even more that the problem is game related and not my computers or network.
Can others confirm they can or can not make a new working server?
So, your friends can see and join the server okay? You can join the server just not see it in the list? If that is the case then it's behavior I have seen in the past and happens with certain network setups. If, however, you or your friends cannot connect then there is indeed an issue here.
Myself i never saw it in the list but i could join by entering my local ip which is logic according to what i heard in the past as the server is in the same network as my computer.
The problem is that now when i try to upgrade or install a new server i can't see it and i can't join it directly neither.
So i don't know what the problem might be as it is on the same computer and the network didn't change.
I can still reach my minecraft servers which are on the same machine but i can not reach my empyrion server?
When i try to ping that machine i don't reach it.
Which is pretty weird as i can reach the minecraft servers.
So any idea?
- A misconfiguration of the YAML file.
- Server executable not let through Windows (or any other software) firewall. Remember that Windows firewall has 3 different "profiles" (Domain, Private and Public), so ensure you have the correct ones ticked - or tick them all. Also ensure it is allowed through in both directions (incoming and outgoing).
- Other software (Anti-virus or VLAN software like Hamachi) that could be interfering with network communication.
- IPv6. Leaving it enabled can cause hosting problems. This can be changed via your NIC properties. You need IPv4 for Empyrion hosting.
If it cannot be joined/seen over the internet then it could be (in ADDITION to the above):
- Port forwards.
- Router (you said yourself that DMZ seemed to fix it before) config / firewall.
Error is still "Connect to server failed: could not retrieve server information"
I rly don't know anymore.
But as i said i wonder if the files are correct.
I deleted and re-installed it again and i have the feeling there are a lot less files than it should be.
Shouldn't there be a lot more files here: https://imagebin.ca/v/3TEtZW8Dd27m
Oh and as i said before i had a creative that i still saw but after the upgrade to 6.0 i could not see it anymore. that is why i think it is a problem with the files. But it should be solved after re-installing but it gives the same problem
YES. You made my day. It is finaly working. No idea why it was blocked in the windows firewall because it worked in the past but by chaning this the problem is solved.
You are an angel :)
Thank you.
