Auto mining in space?
Hi all, can an auto-miner be placed on an asteroid in space ? It doesn't seem to work, the lining of the blocks stays red and it tells me to deactivate the "not connected to a base" in the n menu but it doesn't change anything. Thx

No auto miners in space but they do have the new CV mining turrets now.

ok thanks!

Was so disappointed to learn that auto miners don't work on asteroids.

I had read a post about endless crystals from the Pentaxid asteroid around the Alien Outpost. Once destroying the base, I tried to place an autominer on the asteroid. No such luck...

Hopefully they change this as it was one less grinding element in the game.

I assume this is an oversight. I don't see why this wouldn't be permitted

I know this is an old post, so hold on to your necro-flames...But, I think this quote should be at the bottom of every idea or suggestion that has even been put forth.

You could also add..."You would think that wouldn't you? Cuz, it makes perfect sense. You'd be wrong of course but you COULD think that."

*Sorry, if I sound a bit bitter...but my game just decided to quit after an hour or two of hard work. Yea, I have a back-up...still. Grrr! *SIX BLOOMING YEARS!

Aren't asteroids technically structures, not terrain?

It would appear that way, as the warning says something along the lines of "you cannot connect this to base.".

They are. POIs actually. That's why you can not use AM

Autominers wouldn't yield much ores anyway even if they worked on Asteroids. The ores you get depend on the techique used in ascending order:
- Survival tool
- Drill
- Epic Drill
- Autominer T3 (gets you 800-1000 ores planetside after refilling 1 time, ).
- SV with 6 mounted drills for best yielding on asteroids and shortest time

With the last I get between 2000-3000 ores, whereas with the Epic Drill which I currently use I get max. 1500 ores or so on asteroids. Planetside, the epic drill will yield about 500 ores on 'small' deposits which are the most common, but the autominer will not get beyond 1200 ores unless you refill it multiple times.

Mining with a CV is even better. Though, I can see autominers benefit from not emptying deposits (asteroids in this case) so you can have a permanent supply of the res if you like to settle in a solar system.
