If it's like the Android version, they used the names from the US version. Thus, Terra.

I like Tina a lot more, however.

Terra. Tina sounds too preppy.

The actual reason was that in Japan, Tina sounded exotic to the Japanese community. When the playtesting came in English, the people hated the name Tina, so they changed it to Terra

+ for Tina
I do prefer original names.

"Tina" in Japanese sounds foreign and exotic. In English, it's a very common name. The whole point of the character is that she's a bit otherworldly. I think "Terra" actually captures the original intent quite well, and the localization was smart to make the change.

I'm glad I finished this game in Japanese and was shocked how bad translation is. Even most names of main characters are completely different (I know there was a limit for letters, but still this could have been done better). Shame there's no Japanese language on steam, big ugly hud for touchscreen and sprites looking worst than made in rpgmaker. This whole release is one big misunderstanding.

Terra. The elemental-sounding name fits her very well, especially considering who her parents are.

I am always with any original japanese names so, Tina.

Well, here in Russia it's a very exotic name.
AND I AM RUSSIAN.

Terra fits in with the theme of elemental protagonist names. cloud, squall, lightning, tidus, vaan (i think vaan means wind)

So either the elemental protagonist names started with FF6, or thety started with FF7

even though we are not saying she is the protagonist. also she is completely optional, you can skip her in the 2nd half. i hated her character, i was like "man err woman up and get in there and deal with it, stop hiding and whining" i was quite happpy to leave her to humbaba's tender ministrations.

Usually I'm not a big fan of the localized version of things.

But I like how Terra means the Earth and is a neat recurring name/word in the Final Fantasy franchise.

Game taught me that her name is Terra, just like FF7 showcased to me that her name is 'Aeris' not 'Aerith'.
That's what their names are for me as far as I'm concerned or care. If they are supposed to be something else then maybe they should have spent a bit more scrap on the translation during localization instead of ingraining these names into us over these decades.

Good thing about these non-voiced games however is that you lot can rename them to whatever you want anyway ;D

this leads me to think

edgar
celes
setzer. those are the required characters to complete the game. are any of those elemental names? if so then we shouldn't care about terra/tina.

hmmmmmmmm

The real question is:

Terra, Locke, Sabin, Cyan, and Strago

or

Tina, Lock, Mash, Cayenne, and Stragus

It's not all about Terra. There's other names that you have to be faithful with if you're gonna Tina.
