As you can see, stat differences are small and don't have much of an impact with characters perfoming any job (though some characters are better suited for some jobs than others).
Edit: I included Samurai here because of end-game weapons. I didn't include Dragoon because i don't think it adds much, unless you just want to poke stuff.
Dragoon is meh anyway. The only 'real' perk you get for mastering it is innate Equip Lances. Since pretty much only one lance is worth it (and an end-game weapon at that), that makes it a lackluster class overall.
Give the red mage abilities to another class, and you can easily break the game.
White Mages and Black Mages can only use up to level 6 spells for their classes. You can make a pure magic caster by maxing out one and then the other, but Red Mage gives you access of level 3 for both. It also gives you dualcast. But it also has the highest mastery requirement in the game. Mastering it earns you the achievement "ebony and ivory"
So what is the point...?
First world: Knight, Mystic Knight, Dragoon, White Mage, Black Mage, Blue Mage, Summoner
Second World: Ninja, Samurai, Ranger, Time Mage
Third World: Mimic, Freelancer
- Blue Mage is good from the beginning to the end of the game, so keep leveling it up and collect the spells for it.
- you can get Time Mage in the first world but it's kinda weak until you get better spells in the second world so start using it in the second world should be better.
Gotta say nope on the Dragoon. You literally get nothing from using the class.
