Also, I noticed soon after I started playing that mouse movement seemed to have a slight jitter to it. It could well be my imagination, but if that's not the case, I could imagine it interfering with the "smooth turning" requirement for the mechanic. Haven't tried it with a controller yet.
EDIT: Just seen if I try to move my mouse slowly and smoothly on the desktop, it feels a bit jittery, so don't think it's the game. Point may stand if the "smoothness" measure is somewhat overly-sensitive to it however.
EDIT 2: I think there may also be a key timing component I'm not quite getting right. Like an order to jump/strafe that I don't seem to pull off consistently.
@C0DE_28 As I understand the bar at the bottom is a meter showing how close to optimal your jump timing it. It's relevant since, as I'm sure you've noticed, you need to time the jump well in order to keep your momentum.
1. Bunny hop (Don't stop jumping!)
2. Hold A or D when you want to strafe mid-air while also holding W
3. Turn your mouse in the direction your strafing (Left for A, right for D) The more you turn your mouse the more speed you get when you initiate another jump, visualised by the 2 bars next to your mouse cursor
I saw in another thread you were having trouble with Catch The Grade, which I didn't once I'd learned the route sufficiently, however that was coming from hundreds of hours of Mirror's Edge games, which seem to have let me hop right into most of this game without much learning. Same with surfing which I got more intuitively from old Counter Strike games. It may all just be a case of prior experience and practise as you say.
EDIT: Yep, 6 stars on the mastery level after a bit more practise. Still need a heck of a lot more to feel proficient.
like is said the speen of my mouse may be throwing things off for me i have the speed set to double the default so i can turn and look around faster so that may be messing me up and throwing me off course more.
I also have never played any other bhopping games so a lot of these skills are new to me and the boosting systems seems to be on the higher end of the movement skills in the game.
For catch the grade the hard part is i can't take that level slow and learn the paths as easy because of the blinding effect if you dont keep up.
if there were more places you could use it or needed to use it I would say it would need to be easier to use.
