I know it's not your fault but this is really bad, especially on servers with lower XP gain.
(The value for skill refund percentage is still there...why, devs, why?)

Do you know if it is possible for players to delete their character on a server?

I don't know that sorry,
I do know that the inability to unlearn was because soooo many players used it as a "cheat". The whole point of Eco is to co operate to save the world, it is not designed to be played by lone wolves...everyone must work together, as a proper community.

If you go to the Eco discord, you'll find a LOT more info/support :)

Going to need a lot of stone and iron anyway so don’t fret too much. If it seriously lopsided though bug the admin and tell them what is happening and what you want to do.

Want to add, laborers are always in demand since the bottlenecks are ussally lack of wood, stone, sand, pitch, etc and iron will be in large demand so having a couple smelters might not be bad

There is no more unlearning feature and there is no way to delete your character yourself, unfortunately. Fiddling with the savegame you or your serveradmin can, though.

this is very stupid, the option should exist, the choice should be the owner of the server and not the developers. So we need to create an unnecessary mod for this.

No, it's our choice of game design to which respeccing is very detrimental. Of course you can always create a mod for it.

This game is a life simulator; a teaching tool. You can't just give yourself amnesia whenever you feel like it. Can't respec life..not yet anyway.

There is ways to do that, but ... they're not fun, haha

it is never good when you take the idea literally.
This game is promising, but if the priority is what the developers want instead of the fun of the players, it will continue to decline. It is not fun to simulate a boring and tedious life, so there are games.

The game is not declining at all. The goal of Eco is to simulate a society based on the design pillars of economy, ecology and government. Stuff is meant to be as realistic as it can be. Of course we can't make everything totally realistic, but we do make design choices to make the society simulating possible - and respeccing skills makes it impossible, as it affects economy very badly. I understand that you may not have fun with a game like this, but lots of people, including me have. I guess that's also the reason why people play simulator games simulating their day jobs after their job. It's a simple thing of target groups and goals. Eco was always meant to be a unique game with a specific vision and design. We take player feedback serious and often implement suggestions and QoL features - but the game design and direction is already set. If we would do something else, this game would not be Eco.

For anyone who finds this thread later ... here is how you "unlearn" skills:

Server-admin gives the player Admin role:
/admin playerName

The player runs this command to remove all their skills:
/skills fullreset

Server-admin removes the Admin role from the player:
/removeadmin playerName

Player must then disconnect from server, and re-connect to sync professions/stars

Done!

I find this feature being one of the most important in the game, the struggle to find the right profession is fun to me, you gotta think it carefully and it adds strategy to the game like keeping stars for later professions for instance. Being able to respec your character would open the door to so many exploits as well. For me, this is a good game design.

The problem is that a simple wrong click will ruin your game, besides that you are not thinking about the beginners who did not understand how it works. On my server I'm trying to implement a mod to reset at least 1 time per player, and I'm having trouble removing a single skill, because I didn't want it to reset all. And I also wanted it to have the same old thing as losing a percentage of the experience.

About having fun, just look at how many hours of echo I have, but in my opinion, the game has already been better, today the mod community is almost abandoned, there are very few players and the game was extremely unnecessary. I am the only one with a 24hr Brazilian server and all Brazilians are meeting here, around 30 people playing daily.

I feel that this company is a little too extreme, not everything should be as you want, giving the option to players and server owners is much better. My only complaint is this, wanting to force you to swallow what you think is ideal.
