Major and Exciting Updates: 12 Languages, Smoother Gameplay, and a Few Fixes

Hi everyone,

Quick update today, but an important one.

Since the demo launched, we've been keeping a close eye on feedback. Two things came up a lot: people wanted to play in their own language, and a handful of players mentioned the game felt like it was making them wait more than it should. We heard both.

Translations

BOT.VINNIK Chess Masters Academy now support 12 languages. Full support for English and Portuguese (Brazil), plus beta support for French, German, Spanish (Spain and Latin America), Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Turkish.

Beta means we're still refining those translations, so if something reads awkward in your language, we'd genuinely love to know. BOT.VINNIK is sarcastic by design. Unintentionally confusing is a different problem, so let us know.

Settings

We also added a proper settings screen! You can switch between windowed and fullscreen mode, adjust resolution, and control volume. It should have been there from the start, honestly. Better late than never.

Gameplay feel

You no longer have to wait for all the text to finish before you can start playing. It sounds small, but if you've felt any friction in the demo flow, this is probably what it was. The game moves when you want it to move now.

Bug fixes

A collection of visual bugs have been squashed. Nothing dramatic to report, just a cleaner experience across the board.

Quick tip for widescreen users.

Since this game loves to launch at fullscreen resolution and options are disabled, it is still an Unity game. Use Steam's launch options to make it windowed at a reasonable resolution: -screen-fullscreen 0 -screen-width 1920 -screen-height 1080

The Robot Who Never Believed in You Is Ready to Train You

Hi everyone,

If you've been following us for a while, you already know BOT.VINNIK. Maybe you trained with him in the Early USSR Championships. Maybe you survived Legendary Queens. Maybe you just know him as the robot who has never, not once, been impressed with a human player.

Well. He's back. And this time it's different.

What we've been building.

We started the BOT.VINNIK series back in 2020 with a simple idea: chess study shouldn't feel like homework. The puzzle format worked and we kept building. Nine games later, we think we've learned enough to do something we couldn't do at the start.

BOT.VINNIK Chess Masters Academy is our most ambitious project yet. It's not another standalone puzzle pack. It's a full game, with a proper progression system, a structured curriculum that takes you from your first move to advanced tactics, and a version of BOT.VINNIK that has more to say than ever before. Laika is here too, if you ever need a break from the sarcasm.

The demo has been out for a while and the response has been genuinely encouraging. People keep quoting BOT.VINNIK back at us, which feels right. The full game is coming soon, and we're getting close.

If you haven't tried the demo yet, it's free and available right now on the store page. BOT.VINNIK is in there, waiting, with his usual level of patience (very low).

Work on the Chess Masters Academy is progressing at full steam. We are building the ultimate chess curriculum for you. However, a true master never stops training, even while waiting for the school gates to open.

Playtest discussions?

During the playtest I have noticed at least 1 bug and posted in the corresponding discussions. There is at least one other thread by another person there. It would be nice of you (developers) to check the reports and suggestions there.
