Why Is Heather Called Cheryl?

I’ve beaten SH3 and I know the correlation between them but it would have made more sense to just keep her as Heather. Especially since Cheryl herself was another character entirely (sort of). Without spoiling much, lets just say Heather accepted and let go of the name Cheryl by the end

Cheryl is still her original name, while Heather was given to her by Harry later on as an attempt to throw the cult that was hunting them off.

or a mistake of the devs end. though i doubt they would make a mistake that big

It does, but in 3 its heavily implied that Heather lets go of her past and moves on. You even literally fight Cheryl as a boss in 3. Afterward, you read Cheryl's journal and Heather comments about how she pity's Cheryl but its her life (or something like that)

At the very least, they didn't call her "Sharron" like the movie does. So you know...props i guess? Still, Silent Hill 3 makes it pretty clear that Heather is keeping the name Heather because thats who she is. Cheryl is closer to who/where she came from. So it doesn't make much sense to call her that but, whatever.

Heather changed her name to Cheryl at the end of Silent Hill 3.

If you read the DBD lore she gets taken by the entity after the events of SH3. When she's already changed her name back to Cheryl.

Now I personally am going to keep calling her Heather, because A: I like the name better and B: everyone associated that look, the white jacket with dyed blonde hair with Heather, and Cheryl as the little girl from SH1.
