Usually, if a bug favors killers, it's considered okay because of the "killers are weak no matter what and every unintended overpowered mechanic is okay to use" mentality, that's why nobody is complaining about the crane exploit (I always called it crane btw).
Anyway, one important thing you should probably understand is optics/reputation.
I don't know specifically about The Farmer John, but Otzdarva as someone else you namedropped is mostly a pretty respectful player from what I've seen. He has moments of anger like anyone else and while I've seen some trashtalk come from him, it's usually pretty damn tame and rarely ever makes it into postgame chat.
I don't watch Ussylis all too much, but from what I have seen of him I really do not like his personality. Titling a return video after a 3-week break "Return of the Survivor God" is already a bit much, but from what I've seen in his videos he consistently insults the killers he versuses both when they do badly and especially when they make good plays.
I can see the appeal to jokey, trollish playstyles and even watch YTers who do that kind of thing in other games myself, but not when they make it personal and start going off on their opponent because they saw through a very obvious Decisive Strike ploy, for example.
If someone has a reputation as a jackass, then they won't get much goodwill or benefit of the doubt from people who hear about them using exploits- It also doesn't help if you perform an exploit specifically just because it'll look cool, as opposed to just playing the game.
It also doesn't help that while the Autohaven tech is a debatable issue, who on earth would argue that the item tech is an intended feature of the game? I don't think it's a particularly egregious offense either, but it's definitely not an "acceptable exploit" while Autohaven has room for debate.
I don't think it's a big deal, but that's probably why there's any controversy about this, if I had to guess. If a levelheaded Survivor main with a good reputation pulled off the same thing (one or two quite probably have and I'm just not aware) there'd probably be no controversy.
well yeah i spend an entire endgame trying to do the crane one and didn't manage to do it at all.
skill btw
I suspect more than half of the "camper tunneler" complaints come from people who think they are clever with this ♥♥♥♥, but have the manual dexterity of a 4 yr old, and pay the ultimate price...
I don't think the Coldwind/Autohaven tech should be a thing, but to say "no exploits" is pretty simplistic.
For example, Pig can use RBTs to reposition downed Survivors, and potentially you can use this to deny Survivor teams a pallet save. Is that an exploit?
Or how Trapper, if you place Bear Traps very well, can deny a Survivor a Decisive Strike by having them fall into a trap upon getting free. How about that one?
Or Survivors gentapping to make gen repairs silent or more famously to avoid old Ruin skillchecks. Is that an exploit?
These are rhetorical questions but it's mostly to say that what is and isn't an exploit can often be debated until the cows come home. In the case of the item glitch, Autohaven and Coldwind, yeah, I'd vote to patch them, but there's a pretty significant grey area between "clever use of game mechanics" and "unacceptable exploit".
This one isn't intended, and unintended thing that get abused are considered an exploit.
