BloodRayne

Issues with dedicated GPU (laptop) + FPS
Sup guys (if there is anyone reading this).

I'll keep it short:

I'm playing on a laptop with dedicated GPU (GTX 850M).
Problem is, the game does not want to acknowledge my dedicated GPU's existence, it insists of offering only integrated "Intel HD 4600" as the only display adapter in the menu. Already tried to force preferred GPU via Nvidia control panel (as was suggested on gog forums), but the game is stubborn and insists that my only GPU is Intel HD 4600. Checked it out, and my Nvidia card is indeed not used when the game is running.

I'm getting like 20 FPS (which surprised me, 'tis a pretty old game for it to perform like this). Then again, I forced my native 1920x1080 resolution, so maybe that is the FPS killer. But still....

Anyone knows how to help by any chance please?

I`m having the same problem, but the game is not even running in my intel video card. My dedicated gpu is the GTX 970M, but the game only gimme the Intel option.

Yeah, I tried to set it to use the "High Performance" (Dedicated) in the Catalyst Control Center, sitll, and the monitor of active programs does not register it as using the dedicated GPU even.

FPS is terribad, but meh.

Hey! I posted a fix for this.

If the problem is the same for me, it's not that the game can't detect your other card, it's that the graphics menu can only display the Intel card name.
Press "3D Card" once, and then the game should have toggled to the second card. (it will still display Intel for some reason)

Then change what you want in the other settings and press play. After that it should work just fine.

Thanks for the effort, really :) That's great.
Sadly it didn't fix the issue for me, still the same low FPS, still no activity for Nvidia card in the tray while the game is running :/ Hope it will help at least someone though, thanks again for wanting to help :)
Further note:
Using the latest Nvidia drivers; Windows 10 64-bit. Tried numerous compatibility settings, quadruple-checked if I have really set the preferred GPU for rayne.exe in the Nvidia Control Panel (I have).

Yes yes. I guess I should say my system specs, too. Win 10 pro, 64-bit. Intel CPU. AMD mobile GPU, mux-less. Latest drivers from Win 10 update.
Any update on the situation anyone? Anyone been able to fix this already? I looked for solutions like crazy, so far to no avail :/

Lower the resolution for greater FPS :<

deactivate the intel graphic unit at BIOS! I have a old Ati Mobility Radeon 5850 and a Intel graphic unit but i deactivated it always. it´s only stress :-). And you if you upgraded your Windows 7 laptop to Windows 10 then BIOS option is the only option that can work.

This method worked for me on 7 and still on 10 (GT540M user here)
► Open Nvidia Control Panel;
► Go to: Manage 3D settings → Program Settings;
► Click the ADD button and browse to *\Steam\SteamApps\common\BloodRayne and select rayne.exe;
► On the second drop down menu, choose High-performance Nvidia processor;
► Click Apply button;
► Have fun! :happymeat:

// the purple initial config pop-up just show the intel graphics, but the game runs on Nvidia card //

Nah, as I said, forcing Nvidia GPU through Nvidia control panel didn't help me; same initial config pop-up aside, the performance remained the same, which was unplayable.

@Pidi - completely deactivating integrated GPU via BIOS seems a little too extreme. I mean it could be a way, but I'd still like to use integrated GPU when not gaming due to low power consumption, low heat output and whatnot.

In the meantime I bought a desktop PC so this doesn't really bother me personally anymore, but it still sucks - no one should have performance problems running a 14 years old game. Even those integrated intel cards should eat it for breakfast.

I´ve tested the "lower energy consumption" of a intel gpu versus the normal gpu. If you don´t play then the gaming gpu uses less power then the combination of the cpu and gpu unit. Using a integrated gpu unit increases the energy consumption of the cpu. You only save 3-7 watt if you use the intel gpu! Not useful if you think about the issues you have to tolerate! But that´s only my opinion!

Download "wine d3d for windows" from fdossena webite (just google it). Copy d3d8.dll, libwine.dll and wined3d.dll in the game's executable directory. Run game with high performance nvidia gpu. Use directx8.1 rendering mode and max settings. That's it. You now can play with Your dedicated card and nice framerate.

Basically new nvidia gpus doesn't support older than dx9, but can run opengl applications. These dlls are "directx to opengl" wrappers which work with many old games. Have used myself for Bloodrayne and Silent Hill 3 to improve fps on my laptop.

///Tested on 940m

I actually recommend using DGVoodoo 2 instead, as it converts DX8 (and some other previous DX versions) to DX11, rather than to OpenGL, meaning better overall program compatibility, driver, and graphics card support.

It doubled the framerate on my tablet, which was pretty cool. :HellHeels:

Yeah DGVoodoo fixes the problem of getting it to run on the dedicated GPU on laptops, at least it worked for me.
