Lure Fishing Alligator Gar?

Does anyone know if it's possible? I'd like to use some higher test reels on Gar because the DoublePunch caps at 12kg drag. I'd like to use my Vortex 7000 wich has 15kg drag but that's a baitcaster.

I've been catching them reliably with baits but I can't get any strikes with lures. I've tried cranks, spinners, spoons and jigs with no hits.

I use the 3,5m lobster crank for example. Never tried it with other lures (might work). But be aware: Less bites and less caught gar at the end of the day.

Hmm, alright. I'll try cranks for a bit. I'd just like to see what a higher drag reel would do for the "buggy" fish regarding tension.

It will work much better. But with cranks you will get less bites. Like round about 1-2 per ingame hour. Max 2-4 per day (if you are fishing for trophy).

Man, no kidding that it's slow. Can catch six or more a day with baits. Lucky to get one with lures. :/

omg that explains the fish i was playing for over an hour irl in end i gave up and back winded to let it go lol i was fishing for bass with3.5kg braid and that crank by the lillys and got a screamer but i didnt think the gar would take a crank at 3.5m lol
