Multiple striders in final fight?
So during the final battle of Episode 1, you're supposed to kill a strider and escape. That's it. But one time like a year ago after I killed the strider, another one appeared. I killed him, and ANOTHER appeared. Striders wouldn't stop coming until I gave up and left with Alyx. Ever since that one time, I've played through the game a lot and only the first strider appeared like it's supposed to.

I thought that multiple striders glitch only happened once for me, but recently my friend told me that HIS game has unlimited striders respawning EVERY TIME he plays. I googled this, and all I could find is that one strider is supposed to appear, and no one has had the multiple striders problem.

Has anyone else had this glitch happen? I doubt just my friend and I have had to fight the unlimited striders, but I can't find any proof. Also, does anyone know why this happens?

It probably has something to do with the files that tells Half Life to "Spawn entity_strider_(area) bla bla bla" and it messes up the loop and instead keeps doing the same thing spawning more striders.

I remember when it happened to me,

"Ah finally, I destroyed that annoying Strider," *about to leave* ..."What? Hang on, there's not supposed to be another one!"

It only happened once, sometime ago when I was playing through Ep1 again. I don't know why, it's obviously an uncommonly rare glitch that could happen, I've thought that it could've been cause I destroyed the Strider in a different way, like maybe it died without me having to use rockets, and then another one appeared, cause I had to kill it with rockets, but no more appeared after the rocket-killed strider.

its the pizmeawf.bin file you have to edit

Happening to me now. Second one just respawned after killing the first. I used rockets I had on me and then threw sticky bombs at it. Then another one ran out just like the first.

I wasn't at the end part yet with more rockets, got there, used only rockets to kill it, and another one didn't spawn. Seems like an oddly specific thing to write into that mission.

Just had this happen to me. I found your page because I was convinced I must be nuts. I got down to the train, was low on health and out of almost all ammo. Got a once in a lifetime shot of grabbing a hopper with the gravity gun, threw it at the strider, and that killed him,,, and turned around just in time to have another strider appear and murder my face.

So I did what any good gamer would do, I turned on every cheat I could find and re-loaded that game. Murdered the second strider, and immediately got a third. So I started testing things out a bit, and I think it's a case of slightly over-zelous level design.

So I think the idea is, when you first enter the area, and the strider appears, if you managed to find a reasonable vantage point and kill the strider with rockets or something, then there would be nothing to trigger the collapsing containers that you eventually climb. So probably someone at valve decided, well, if you do do that, I'll just auto-spawn another strider, problem solved (I'm unhappy about this design on it's own, but fine) Worse, however, it appears their "If Strider Dead: spawn strider" code was also keyed off of you being on the right side of the train. So even once you're down at the train, if you don't cross the train at least once, the striders will keep spawning as soon as you kill them. At least with my checking so far this seems pretty reproducible.

Assuming I'm right, I hope this helps someone else who comes across this 5 year old thread.
