In 2016 a plot does exist. It's not much to write home about, but the interesting thing is that the Slayer does not care about the plot. He exists to murder demons, destroy everything that gets in his way and ignore everything else, pretty much in that order. And it works.
In Eternal, there are massive plot holes from the very beginning and it makes the game as a whole frustrating.
Oh look, you have an orbital fortress... somehow? How the heck did that happen? I thought Hayden had us trapped in Hell somewhere. I guess not anymore? Gee, I wonder what we were doing while the invasion of Earth was going on. (I think it is 2-3 years in universe between games?)
So you go to murder a Hell Priest, because reasons. But no, he taunts you claiming that "His soul is protected!" Protected by what? Protected how? Then the Slayer flips a coin at him that does... nothing? And then you kill him anyway. So did the coin enable you to do that? How did you get that coin anyway?
All of this is part of the VERY FIRST LEVEL! And none of it is ever explained! I guess Id was going to put out a comic book about it, but never did.
Yeah the colour that's 5% of the entire game, It's almost as though it has function & purpose.
It's about trend chasing and lack of talent. The team that developed the first one changed a lot from it to Eternal. Doom 2016 is pure ID style and design with a clever modernization of graphics and gameplay. It was unique and at the same time, it went back to the basics.
Eternal is a corporate product. A generic milking of a once great franchise. Let's see what they do with Doom Year 0 but I don't have any hope for it.
The great devs from ancient have all but disappear. Blizzard is a shell. Bioware doesn't exist. Valve doesn't make games anymore and ID has been redone and the name is the only thing that last.
We are in for a new age. I don't know if better or worse, but new no doubt.
Bethesda had zero involvement with 2016 & eternal, all the did was publish them. I always find this argument of to much colour so redundant seeing as the classic games used way more colour than eternal & even then the only use of colour in the game is the ammo & hud, the demons are ment to be similar to the classic versions & the levels take places in so many different locations that's it's only natural that things will look different, dosn't mean it's cartoon-like. I'd rather it look like this than have the same red, grey & brown that 2016 was.
As for rage 2 the pink is used the same way the green lights in doom, to guide the player, & it's less than 2% of the while game, the rest is desert or jungles.
I'm going to simplify more my own personal opinion that I hope we can still have in societies with free speech.
REVIEW DOOM 2016: Masterpiece 10/10
REVIEW DOOM ETERNAL: It's good - 7/10
EDIT: About Bethesda only publishing. They never "only" publish. It's like saying EA only "publish" Bioware games.
You can have your own personal opinion & i can disagree, no hard feelings.
I mean, can you imagine how boring the world would be if we all felt the same way & liked the same things?
You know you can find something more productive to do with your time instead of trying to pick fights with me & create duplicate troll threads. Just some advice.
It must be - you're participating in it.
Edit: Please stop trying to derail a legitimate discussion thread just because you're prejudice against DOOM 2016 fans.
