Nothing started with B relating to Doom! Why would you say that? Hahahahaha! Nothing like that exists, nope - definitely not! :D
They also pulled Doom 3 from Steam when BFG came out, presumably because they foolishly assumed 'no one would want to play vanilla Doom 3 with our remaster out that removes mod support! (among many, many other issues). After fan outcry they wisely put 'vanilla' Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil back on Steam.
I know BFG edition isn't good, but I'd still recommend it at a discount for the Doom 2 and 3 exclusive add ons, No Rest for the Living and Lost Mission.
The BFG Edition was great for those who were playing mostly PS3 and Xbox 360 at the time but it doesn't exist on PC - let it slip into the ether in pure silence :D
Increased brightness in certain areas
More ammo (They doubled the pick ups)
Shoulder mounted flashlight - so you can light stuff up AND shoot
And a couple of character models were slightly changed
It also fixed resolutions on modern systems.
Now the vanilla purists will tell you that this game is bad, or that it is not as scary, ect... But i am one of those people who thinks that BFG edition, overall, is a great package. It includes og dooms with extra episode. Has all Doom 3 DLC. And the flashlight on your armour makes way more sense than the handheld one (Which is a reason why we had freaking duck-tape mod in vanilla - but some people forget that). The only bad change was the ammo counts increase - cuz it lowered the difficulty. But besides that - it's a great package.
Couldn't disagree more. The sound, the lighting, it was absolutely amazing at the time. That imp crawling out from under the stairs got me good the first night I played it, lights out and headphones on.
Doom 3 got a lot of complaints from Doom fans for not being enough like the originals. Understandable, but I loved it for what it was and find it becomes a much weaker experience the more they've tried to 'fix it' and make it more like the classics. By all means, get BFG edition for the extra content, but I really think it will spoil it for first timers.
I guess we will agree to disagree on BFG.... but honestly - comparing it to the HD collection is just unfair. Missing music, textures, terrible performance, the fog not working, the voice actor change (Which hurts 3 especially since you can't change voices on that one). The game was rereleased from a broken Alpha version since they accidentaly lost the original files and gave this remaster to a different studio completely. Silent Hill HD collection is literally the worst rerelease of a game i can imagine. BFG edition, while flawed in certain areas - is still great. Then again - i was one of those people that felt like og doom 3 was less of a doom game and more of a half-life clone. Even tho i like it.
Thanks for the information!
