how do i switch back to openGL?

i wanted to try vulkan but doom crashes on start it doesnt even make it to the dev logos

open doomconfig.local
change r_renderapi "1" to r_renderapi "0"
save the file and have fun again :)

Thanks Ransom, that worked for me as well. I couldn't get past the loading screen after I tried switching to Vulkan on my GTX 1070.

Once I got the right file, "doomconfig.local", Windows asked what program I wanted to use and I chose notepad, made the change, and then saved. Worked fine and just wanted to add this in case someone ran into the same issue.

vulkan should work on a 1070... maybe u have to update ur graphics driver

If you go to C:\Users\(your name)\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM\base you can revert back to OpenGL in the DOOMConfig.Local file by changing the r_rendererAPI from "1" to "0"
