DOOM
Cyberdemon and Spider Mastermind as bosses...
I love the game. I'm a huge fan of the classic Doom games. I am sad to see the Cyberdemon and Spider Mastermind turned into boss fights. In Doom II, you would come across a room full of enemies, including one of these 2 badass monsters. It made the game that much more intense. Now, you are stuck in an arena with 1 cyberdemon, and then later 1 spider mastermind. I just wish they were another enemy, and not all alone as a boss, where you are forced to jump and dodge at certain points of the battle. Anyone else agree?

Well, they where boss fights in the original Doom. The cyberdemon at end of episode 2 and the spidermastermind as final boss of Episode 3. That was also their only appearance in Doom 1 from 1993.

It was not until Doom 2 that they appeared more often.

So I don't agree. I see Doom 2016 a sort of reboot of the original Doom 1. Although the "story" is a bit different.

In Doom II , you were sometimes faced with over 100 enemies at a time, but in this DOOM, you do have waves of eneimes, but it doesnt feel overwhelming . The game seems allot easier, especially when you dont have to deal with a cyberdemon or 2 every few levels.

We all are, because this doom isn't doom. And this isn't a reboot of original Doom, this is literally a direct sequel to Doom 2 that simply ignores or omits everything that happened with the Demons coming to earth. If you actually listen to the audio logs in Hell you'll find the character you play as is the Doomguy from Doom 1 and 2 and he went to hell and after destroying the Icon of Sin, they somehow managed to capture and entomb him.

The game takes places far in the future after Doom 2, and for whatever reason glosses over the fact that Earth was destroyed by the demons and everyone fled Earth to find a new planet.

No that really doesn't add up. Doom 2 ended with Doomguy escaping hell and helping to rebuild humanity. It's also stated somewhere that the Doom Marine is millenia old, and originated from hell itself. More likely he had something to do with the people of Argent D'Nur before it was betrayed by it's leader in exchange for his son, and taken over by the demons.

You might want to replay both Doom 2 and Doom 4. He didn't escape hell. Even so, that's the point. This is a sequel in which he didn't escape hell.

It's less complicated if you think of this Doom as an alternative universe where the same Doomguy (called DoomSlayer here) is brought back to do the same thing he's always done in the previous games. Your character has the memories of Deimos, Phobos, Mars, Hell and Earth (Doom 1 and 2 respectively). Then he's called upon to do it all over again. It's like a tragic comedy and helps explain why you smash computers and punch out helpful field drones. Over time you've grown sick of this crap and turned into a jerk.

That works for me, which also ties in to the fact that Hell in this game is basically just another planet that kind of may as well be Saturn's moon Titan (or better yet an alternate dimension), and that they have the argent tower (basically the matter bridge from SGA episode McKay and Mrs. Miller) that basically steals energy from an alternate dimension i.e Hell (certainly not the hell that most Western people identify with) and surprise, surprise - it all ♥♥♥♥♥ up and "demons" come through the "portal" i.e matter bridge and kill everyone.

Just further lends to my theory that this would actually be a good game, just like Doom 3, if they didn't put the Doom label on it. A scifi game with this premise is perfectly acceptable and would be laudable.

But they keep calling these games Doom, and they aren't Doom.

And they're absolute wimps, the cyber demon is pathetic. Mastermind tries to put a little bit of a fight though and it looks waay cooler than the new cyber wimp.

Bro that cyberdemon was offensively easy. I actually died on Cinthia (?) (Carol? Cah..what's her name? Useless character?) one time because I realized too late that the tower things served as protection from the electricity, and also turned in to health. But they were both so f*cking stupidly easy.

My only complaint is that the arenas were too frigging small

Agreed, They bring shame to the Cyberdemon and Spider Mastermind of old. I just want to walk around a corner and have 20 imps, 20 soldiers,10 commandos,5 mancubus,10 or so cacodemons, some hell knights and barons of hell, and a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cyberdemon staring me in the face! Love the game, but when i hit 100% achievements im going back to Doom 2!

Don't forget to play the classical maps, you even get the tower of babel boss fight against the cyberdemon with the old cyberdemon AI there.

Cyberdemons and Spider Masterminds in Doom 1 and Doom 2 (and the Doom 3 boss fight) were quite the joke in terms of difficulty. The arena in episode 2 is too large and the rockets so easy to dodge that there is hardly any challenge, even though some lost souls (which you can clear without caring about the CD if you wish, because the arena is so large). Spider Mastermind dies with around 2 BFG shots and the fight is over before it even starts. In this Doom the boss fights actually take a few tries when you learn the patterns and at least for me (playing on Nightmare) they were very challenging but not too frustrating.

Technically they were actually harder to kill than the old cyber and spider, but that's because they had visible health bars and didn't have 90 dudes supporting them and both of them took place in tiny arenas with no room to really do anything.

You can go watch gameplay where spider demons are going down from about 100 plasma rifle hits (because Doom 1 and 2 plasma rifle isn't a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke like this one). But they were still stupid easy.
