As for doom 3 it threw the scary stuff out of the window not too long into game and went into "full action" as far as I remember.
I think Doom 2016 is a superior game and is the true successor to the original doom series in all ways. It's not perfect for sure as the multiplayer is not really great (I'll be playing Overwatch for that) and the map editor needs more options and work done but it's excellent in that regard.
Doom 3 all the way. Especially with mods, it's superior.
Also, doom 3 is the worst by far. Terribly linear level design, boring conventional weapons. The AI is unbelievably bad, like on rails. Its almost somehow worse than the original dooms games where their only goal is move in the direction of the player. The lighting was completely broken and overdone, the enemies do NOTHING to complement each other's attacks which is what made doom so fun to play in the first place. I don’t even remember too many places were demons spawn in ways that they have separate types together at all.
The multiplayer was tacked on as all ♥♥♥♥. So yeah, they're not even in the same ball park.
Its below doom64, below plutonia, below final doom. below doom1-2 and below new doom.
New doom is a true worthy successor. It follows all the qualities that made the originals great, plus adds modern twist to keep it up to date.
Doom 2016 was my best fps experience in years. Especially the SP.
Doom 2016 is a lesson in third party control to me, it has its good moments but mostly a let down at every turn.
