How to Restart a Completed Mission
I completed mission 3 and the game rolled to mission 4. But I've now decided I want to replay mission 3. I can get back to the mission, but I cant seem to restart it in order to play it fully fresh. Is there a way to do this?

After you load the campaign from save slot it gives you menu with "Continue", "Classic maps" etc. Select "Mission select" from that menu.

I must be missing something. When I bring up my save slot, I'm given continue game, or mission select. If I go to Mission select, that will bring up the mission, but it will not "Reset" it as it had never been played before. That's what I am looking for, a way to reset the mission as it had never been played.

You mean erasing the achivements for the level, like secrets, challanges and kill meters? Cause you cant do that. You just go back for what you missed

Ah. Yeah I was wanting a fresh level for video capturing. But good to know you can go back for missed stuff.

Yeah, if you want to do that, you have to start a new campaign on a new slot. once something is unlocked on a slot, its unlocked, even if you die or alt+f4

Well its because rewards go to your overal progress. It wouldnt make sense to take level ups away from the player.

If you had completyed the level, whether you found everything or not, why would it be a hassle to have the 'option' to reset the level to start from scratch, versus having to start another game slot and then re-progress through levels you have already played to get to the one you want to play fresh? Your overall progress in a campaign is tied to a game slot yes? If you didn't find all the stuff to progress with the first time you complete it, and you can go back and play it further to find the items you missed, then you should be able to completely reset the level to scratch.

IF YOU WERE USING STEAM CLOUD:

Yes, I know this is old, and NO, I did not look for a newer thread. I am posting because I reinstalled DOOM, and had a question, which I am 99% sure I know the answer, BUT, I saw this.

From what I remember, you can find the saved progress files in your:
C:\Users\NAME\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM\base\savegame.user(\etc)

NO - etc - is not a folder name. :-)

If you see a file with the level name you want to completely restart, make a TEMP folder, cut and past that/those file/s into the TEMP folder, start Steam to play.

-

NOW REMEMBER, THE OP POSTED:

"I completed mission 3 and the game rolled to mission 4. But I've now decided I want to replay mission 3. I can get back to the mission, but I cant seem to restart it in order to play it fully fresh. Is there a way to do this?"

THAT IS WHAT I AM ANSWERING!

So, he would cut and paste everything into the TEMP folder from AFTER level 2 on, that refers to Level 3, and really risk losing nothing much.

I NEVER TRIED THAT MYSELF AFTER THE CAMPAIGN WAS FINISHED!
I REPEAT:
I NEVER TRIED THAT MYSELF AFTER THE CAMPAIGN WAS FINISHED!

When Steam is restarted, and you click on DOOM to play, it should tell you there is a difference in Cloud files, and local files, and ask if you want to download or upload. CHOOSE UPLOAD!

You will then be at the very end of Level 2, HENCE, the very beginning of Level 3.

By "end" of Level 2, I mean, where the level end screen says to save/exit(/progress ?) to then move to Level 3.

-

IF YOU WERE NOT USING STEAM CLOUD:
You would just, cut/paste(/save) to the TEMP folder, play.

However, you can copy the entire DOOM folder, to somewhere, to save all the files. Just bear in mind the Cloud Service can be a little tricky sometimes, at least in my experience. E.G., I have changed files, and it did not give me the option to download or upload. It automatically downloaded to my computer/game.

-

You can also do this: go to;
https://store.steampowered.com/login/?redir=account%2Fremotestorage&redir_ssl=1
and download the files to save somewhere, BEFORE you do anything.

I HAVE NEVER DONE THAT, EITHER. So, I assume it would save the appropriate files to the appropriate DOOM User location/folder. So, It would still be good to copy and save your entire DOOM folder somewhere. If it does not do that, BUT, it asks you where you want to save, then just make a folder and save.

Yes, you can use Steam back-up. I, personally, have never used Steam back-up. I know what files need to be saved, how to manipulate them, (and take my own risks).

EDIT: That may be exactly what Steam back-up does, save the cloud files to your computer.

The reason I have never used Steam back-up is, when I tried it, it gave some absurd, ridiculous amount of time it would take to back-up the files, whatever it was backing up. So, I just do it manually.

Oh, here is another HINT: You can save your entire DOOM folder right before you completely end the entire campaign. It should list every single level within the... GAME-AUTOSAVE0(/1/2) ...to that point. Because, after you complete the entire campaign, and go back to replay a level, all of those individual levels/saves will be gone, within that specific slot folder.

EDIT: I am not 100% sure. All I know for sure is, mine are gone. And of course, you can just save whatever individual slot folder, instead of the whole DOOM folder.
