DOOM
Changing resolution out of game
How do I change game resolution out of game. Is there a game file where this could be done.

C:\Users\[user name]\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM\base\DOOMConfig.cfg

Resolution settings are all the way at the bottom.

I've looked that before, and I just looked again. There is nothing in there about resolution, unless it's in some jibberish code.

r_windowHeight "1080"
r_windowWidth "1920"

Those are the settings for 1080p.

Yes, that would make sense... Except that there is absolutely nothing resembling that anywhere in the whole file..

Odd, but if you add it in it should stick.

I thought it odd also, I thought it should be in there. The whole file is nothing but keybinds, joystick binds, etc.. Until the very end, where the following is.

.
.
.
bind "MWHEELUP" "_weapnext"
//========================================
m_smooth "1"
joy_deadZone "0.17"
com_showConsumerPerfMetrics "1"
vt_pageImageSizeUnique "16384"
vt_pageImageSizeVmtr "16384"
r_mode "19"
r_physicalPagesAspectRatio "1"
r_vmtrPhysicalPagesAspectRatio "1"

And that's all.

It should be placed in that last section.

You have some settings that I don't, I have an urge to try them out and see what they do :D

Ok found it and changed it and nothing happened . I also saved it and restarted my PC and same issue. My resolution is 5870x1080 (Triple 43" 4K) but the game tries to load up in a 4K resolution single screen on my left screen and only the right half of game is showing. . I did have it running at my original resolution running fine . Something happened when I shut off my PC and later turned it on and booted up Doom.

Try deleting the config file (and disabling Steam cloud sync so it doesn't keep restoring it).

Too bad I don't even have an idsoftware folder in mine. Why can't they just have all these options in game ?

The topic is "changing resolutions outside of the game".

The options already exist in-game.

Sorry for the resurrection post here, but solution for people who find this thread:

The resolutions are located within the file "DOOMConfig.LOCAL"
It is located in: "C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM\base"

The file is not recognised as a .txt or code file, so it won't show a notepad icon, making it (relatively) easy to miss.
Double clicking opens up a "open with" window.
Just select Notepad, or any text editor of your choice, and open it with that.

EDIT: Okay, turns out i was wrong. Deleted the wrong section of this comment... :/
I'm unable to figure out how to get a custom resolution, although changing the r_mode to a range between 0 (potato resolution) and 31 or something changes the preset.
20 is 1920x1080@60hz.

EDIT 2: So, adding a custom fullscreen resolution is a bit more difficult.
You have to add a custom resolution to your pc's graphics menu before it'll show up in DOOM.
Yeah.
Don't ♥♥♥♥ around with that unless you're sure you're not breaking... stuff.

Cheers, and let the carnage never end! ;3
