Doom 3 was the real masterpiece
I am fully aware that Doom 3 is quite different, but I mean, c'mon, who would deny that, as a *game*, it is absolutely better than all other Dooms, including the 2016 one?

Here's my is/isn't comparison between Doom 3 and Doom 4 (I haven't finished Doom 4 yet but I've played it long enough to see the mechanics, and I have all weapons and I have seen all demons):

Doom 3 is scary, Doom 4 isn't.

Doom 3 has a real scenario (yes...) Doom 4 barely has one.

Doom 3 has a great ambient (sounds, lightning, nicely scripted events), Doom 4's sounds are average to awful, and it uses a minimum of scripted events.

Doom 3's Hell level really looks dark, gloomy and terrific, Doom 4's Hell level looks way too common and almost quiet actually - this is clearly not hell as the place where all evil resides.

Doom 3 has corridors, Doom 4 has arenas (I vastly prefer the first, as arena maps are pure ambient killers).

Doom 3 has average to decent physics/ragdoll, Doom 4's ones go from bad to average.

Doom 3 was really visually impressive when it was out, Doom 4 has very nice visuals but that's about all.

Doom 3 has many interactive stuff (screens you can click on, hidden buttons...), Doom 4 seems to use this only when it is required for the main objectives.

Doom 3 has a chainsaw, Doom 4 has some super overpowered weapon they've called "chainsaw".

Doom 3 has several boss well distributed through the game, and you have to wait for long to see the first one in Doom 4 - there isn't even one to exit hell, lol!

Doom 3 has pure old-school weapons, Doom 4's ones are upgradable and can use modules like in a RPG (don't get me wrong, I like this feature and I think the developers got it right, but I'm not sure I want to see this in a Doom).

Doom 3 has pure old-school gameplay, Doom 4 has super-jumps, glory kills, climbing and vertical maps, like in a fantasy world...

You can punch demons in the face using your fists in Doom 3, which is a very Doomish feature, and you can't do this in Doom 4 because the marine apparently only wants to use his hands against demons during glory kills.

Ect, ect...

So, which Doom is better and also, which Doom is actually more Doom...?

PS: in spite of what you might think, I actually like Doom 4 - it is just that I find it clearly not as good as the previous one, and I also think that, regardless of what many people say, this game isn't a real Doom *at all*. To me, it looks like a cross between Quake and Rage...

I think Doom 64 was a real masterpiece, and the true Doom 3. It's really underrated IMO.

I would do anything for a Doom 64 remastering and proper PC port. I know we have Doom 64 EX and it's probably the closest we will get, but it would be so amazing if they could revive it for the PC market and sell it on Steam.

Can't really compare Doom 3 was a horror game not action and Imo other games did atmospheric horror much better. Amnesia, Alien isolation. So it was nothing special

Modern shooters just don't play like doom4 at all the revival is great and it's certainly more Doom.

This actually has more similarities to original Doom than Doom 3. Open your eyes.

Doom 3 went off the path that Doom 1/2 had laid out, while this Doom is more like the first two. I like them both, but for different reasons and I feel they're different enough as to make them hard to compare.

I would of liked more interaction with the enviorment that we had in Doom 3, but there is enough to explore in Doom to keep me happy with that.

Did like the overall look and feel of the Hell maps in Doom 3, but Doom 3 had more of a focus on horror than Doom does. The near pitch black areas of Doom 3 would of not worked well in Doom without adding flashlights back in.

I do miss the spider sentries from Doom 3 though, I had bound a key to spawn the ones that had a flashlight. If they could only climb stairs and over some obstacles...

Neither Doom 1 nor 2 were scary. That's never been a selling point for Doom.

Doom 3 has a real scenario (yes...) Doom 4 barely has one.
Again, neither did the first 2 Doom games, really. So again, not a traditional part of Doom.

Doom 3's Hell level really looks dark, gloomy and terrific, Doom 4's Hell level looks way too common and almost quiet actually - this is clearly not hell as the place where all evil resides.
They never said it was that kind of hell. It's just another dimension that the UAC, like idiots, tapped into to exploit.

Doom 3 has corridors, Doom 4 has arenas (I vastly prefer the first, as arenas maps are pure ambient killers).
Yet again, the first 2 games were largely made up of arena style levels.

Doom 3 was really visually impressive when it was out, Doom 4 has very nice visuals but that's about all.
hahahahahahahahahahaha... oh, wait, your serious? Let me laugh harder HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Please, Doom 3's graphics and textures were dated even by 2006 standards and it was BTFO by Half-Life 2 in all aspects of graphics.

Doom 3 has many interactive stuff (screens you can click on, hidden buttons...), Doom 4 seems to use this only when it is required for the main objectives.
that's because it neede them, they were largely time-sinks for players to futz around with.

Doom 3 has a chainsaw, Doom 4 has some super overpowered weapon they've called "chainsaw".
Which is a throwback to how OP the chainsaw in Doom 1 and 2 was.

Doom 3 has several boss well distributed through the game, and you have to wait for long to see the first one in Doom 4 - there isn't even one to exit hell, lol!
Doom 1 and 2 didn't really have bosses, either. Just a few special enemies, many of which did not close out a level.

Doom 3 has pure old-school weapons, Doom 4's ones are upgradable and can use modules like in a RPG (don't get me wrong, I like this feature and I think the developers got it right, but I'm not sure I want to see this in a Doom).
Doom 3's weawpons were largely underpowered. Again, it was a horror title, not a traditional shooter, so that's to be expected.

Doom 3 has pure old-school gameplay, Doom 4 has super-jumps, glory kills, climbing and vertical maps, like in a fantasy world...
No, this games gameplay is the true old-school stuff, because it's bascially exactly like the first 2 games. Doome 3's gameplay was a slow paced jump-scare hoirror borrowed largely from games like RE, only badly implimented.

You can punch demons in the face using your fists in Doom 3, which is a very Doomish feature, and you can't do this in Doom 4 because the marine apparently only wants to use his hands against demons during glory kills.
And your hands were a LAST RESORT, outside power ups like Berzerk, for when you were out of ammo. They largely did ♥♥♥♥-all in terms of damage.

Those things were so OP and very helpful on Nightmare mode.
