IGN Review a joke?
Hello guys,

I just noticed that IGN have given this game a dubius (in my opnion) rating of 7.1!

For my part, I think this is very, very unfair. What do you think?

Grant.

No whole of IGN is a joke. They are just pissed they got the game late.....

I've seen their gameplay, saw the review and I can tell you guys thats it's a load of ♥♥♥♥. He actually says that game play gets too repetetive because you go on the room, kill demons, clear and repeat for the whole game.

Jesus christ, thats like the whole point of FPS game isnt?

Hi,

I understand that these things are subjective. Fine. But I really felt badly for the developers. (Not that they'll bother too much when they visit the bank.

And, yeah, you're post on, goneM4D! The guy acts like the game doesn't play like it's supposed to!

For the most part the criticisms in the review seemed fair, it praised the singleplayer for recapturing the magic of the original DOOM, but said near the later half the repetative forumla wears a little thin, most of the issue was with the multiplayer's strange mix of traditional arena shooter and loadout based shooter which, in their eyes, didn't work well. Ignore scores, read the text.

Wouldn't really bother with IGN, but since when was 7.1 a bad score? 7 used to mean a game was good. 5 average, 6 above average, 7 good...

With respect, Azathoth, I wasn't saying 7.1 was a bad score overall. Not at all. What I'm suggesting, and only suggesting from my own popint of view mind you, is that the score bared no resemblence to the product reviewed.

My guess is that Bethesta didn't pay them enough money for the review. :P

Here we go again, piling on journalists for not liking the stuff we like.

Look, very little in this world is universally loved or hated. Subjectivity is a given, in human experience. As long as reviewers are human, we will find some examples of journalists mismatching their opinions with ours.

Objective reviews are an ideal, but they're impossible to have. It's almost like we expect all publications to have the same opinion or something.

In conclusion, it doesn't matter. Metacritic average might matter a little more, but even then the overall feeling is that never let any review matter so much that you feel like it is harming you or preventing you from enjoying something. Especially today, when at least Steam is going to stand behind its' products to the point where it allows you to refund a purchase even after 2 hours of play of anything on the store.

I think really it comes down to how reviewers weigh aspects of the game for how they score it. I imagine IGN focussed a lot on the quality of the multiplayer (as that took up a lot of the review) and if it wasn't to their liking that probably brought the review score down significantly. Even though the target audience likely see the multiplayer as a minor addition and the single player to be the main aspect of the game.
I think a 7/10 is a respectable score, lower than average for DOOM, but its in no way ridiculous, especially as the multiplayer and end game didn't grab the reviewer.

Luckily for us, nothing IGN ever says or does will change the fact that this is an incredible game, and arguably one of the best first-person shooters to date.

Hi,

No, I simply disagreed with the journalists review score and asked what others think. That and nothing else. Was not flaming the guy. Nothing like it.

Okay, because in this highly volatile environment whenever someone starts to pick apart a review score they don't like on a forum, it's very likely to turn into a flame war. Forgive me for not knowing your intentions, i've just seen it go south in literally every other attempt to dissect a review score.

Makes me afraid to become a games reviewer, honestly.
