Triple Buffering?
Is there any way to enable triple buffering?

i use adaptive vsync and only get a very small amount of tear now and then

It's enabled by default, if framerate drops below 60, it will not jump to 30 automatically, meaning it is enabled. If you want to make sure, you can also play in borderless windowed mode, which is automatically vsynced and tripple buffered.

From what i've seen so far in the discussions, triple buffering is not supported currently by the game. Turn vsync on if you want to disable tearing at the risk of being locked to half of your monitor's refresh rate ie. 60/30 120/60 etc...

Turn it off to get the full fps capability of your PC.

That's not true, I did the test in both fullscreen and windowed mode, and tripple buffering is enabled by default, otherwise the game would drop to 30FPS automatically when below 60FPS with Vsync on.

To this day triple buffering isn't enabled yet. On AMD it's just double-buffering and it's quite horrid to look at.

Unfortunately adaptive vsync is Nvidia specific.

This is one reason why I went with a G-Sync monitor about 6 months ago and never looked back. Yeah, they're pricey, but well worth the cost. I never get tearing regardless of FPS and no added input lag that traditional vsync introduces.

Freesync is what you want if you're running an AMD gpu

So did I (R9 290X) but after googling it appears AMD doesn't support adaptive vsync and it was originally developed by Nvidia, Not sure why the option remains available in-game tho.

What's annoying is that there is no reason adaptive v-sync couldn't work on AMD. It uses a OpenGL extension called "WGL_EXT_swap_control_tear" that has been in both Nvidia and AMD drivers since Rage came out. It allows the GPU to automatically switch v-sync on when you are rendering above refresh rate, and switch it off when you render below v-sync. It actually dose work on AMD drivers with Doom 3 BFG. For some reason Doom wont use the extension on AMD GPU's.

When you try to enable it in Doom it wont save the setting

But it works in Doom 3 BFG

I've sent a tweet to the lead renderer programer at id and recieved no response. And yes the v-sync is supposed to be triple buffered.

Sent a tweet about triple buffering to the renderer programmer and the official id twitter account and got no response as well

I've just given up and run the game without v-sync. Thankfully performance is great and for some reason I never see the screen tearing. Maybe its because I run it in a borderless window. Here's hopeing that the Vulkan renderer is out soon, which should have normal working triple buffered v-sync. If you really want triple buffering it dose work correctly if you run the game in a window.
